Best and Worst Sets From Coachella Weekend 1

Exron Music explored the grounds of Coachella during Weekend 1 to bring you the best and worst sets from the events.

Coachella 2023 Weekend 1 has come and gone. But without a doubt, the festival left attendees with some rare unforgettable and forgettable moments throughout the weekend. Fans from all over the world gathered in Indio, California to experience the magic of this iconic festival. With a lineup featuring some huge names from the electronic and other music industries, it was certainly a weekend to remember. But, who did Exron Music think had some of the best and worst sets of the weekend? Check out our thoughts below.

Best Sets of Coachella Weekend 1

Chris Lake b2b Fisher

The show-stopping set by Chris Lake and Fisher was truly the biggest standout performance at Coachella, and it’s easy to see why. The energy of the crowd was infectious, and the duo’s chemistry on stage made for an unforgettable experience. They played some classic tracks that had the crowd going wild, but also gave us a taste of what is to come. Fisher and Chris Lake even debuted new tracks. Currently, TikTok cannot get enough of Fisher’s unreleased, and Chris Lake’s Anti-Up tease. If you have the chance to attend Weekend 2, make sure to catch this set. It’s pure happiness and fun, and it is sure to be a highlight of the festival. Also, who doesn’t want to see Chris Lake giving Fisher a shoulder ride?

Tale of Us

One word could describe the beauty that was Tale of Us’ set on Saturday. That word is perfection. This was my first experience seeing the duo, but certainly will not be my last. The duo used the full advantage of the huge LED screens Sahara tent offered them as well. From seeing the iconic tour visuals produced by Anyma to hearing some of the duo’s biggest hits, this set was everything a Tale of Us fan could wish for. One unforgettable moment includes the visual production of two of Anyma’s NFTs embracing each other to a Rufus du Sol remix. This track closed out the set, leaving attendees with a beautiful moment to end. If you are one for melodic techno and an insane visual immersive experience, don’t miss this set! Also, you can catch Tale of Us performing their Afterlife show coming up in September at Brooklyn Mirage!

Sofi Tukker

Sofi Tukker’s performances are always a must-see. So, when Coachella gave the duo a prime sunset time slot, we could not miss out. Sofi Tukker showcased tons of news in their performance. They showed off their latest stage outfits and production, sporting an all-white clean look for both. Also, something unique about their performance was their interaction with the crowd. Instead of just putting on a show, Sofi Tukker challenged the crowd to a scoring system. The crowd would receive points for every time they cheered or interacted with the songs played during the set. This set made the crowd feel close to the duo while also getting everyone to have a great time!

Mochakk

Mochakk, the tech house legend, is a must-see for anyone looking for a fun and amazing time. His set in the iconic Yuma tent was a bonus point. His thrilling persona behind the decks, coupled with his prolific production, was the talk of the town after his performance. Getting lost in Mochakk’s music in the Yuma tent was an unforgettable experience. Additionally, he performed as a surprise DoLab guest on Friday night with Vintage Culture. So, if you’re looking to escape the desert heat, head over to Yuma and witness the greatness of Mochakk!

Narrowing three whole days full of amazing sets is always tough! So, here are a few honorable mentions for other show-stopping sets we caught during Weekend 1. Those sets include Malaa, Odesza Surprise Set at DoLab, and Cassian.

Worst Sets of Coachella Weekend 1

Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean’s set at Coachella 2023 Weekend 1 received tons of mixed reviews. Though many fans were disappointed by his late start and lackluster performance, others appreciated the few magical moments he did deliver. Additionally, Frank dedicated the set to his late brother, adding a poignant touch to the performance. Unfortunately, due to curfew restrictions, Frank was unable to fully showcase his talents, which may have contributed to his decision to drop out of Weekend 2. As a result, Skrillex, Fred Again.., and Four Tet will be headlining instead. We are definitely jealous!

Camelphat

Unfortunately, Camelphat had to be included on the list of worst sets for Weekend 1, but it had nothing to do with their performance. The duo was scheduled to perform at the Yuma Tent on Sunday, but fans coming from other stages found it nearly impossible to get in. The line became swamped with people, and after waiting for around fifteen minutes, it stopped. Fans stood disappointed when they could hear the music inside but had no way in. Finally, Coachella security told fans they were no longer letting anyone into the tent. The fire marshals declared the Yuma Tent over capacity, with an estimated wait time of two hours. So, if you want to catch Camelphat this weekend, arrive early, or catch their set on the live Yuma stream on the Coachella YouTube channel.

My name is Emilee Gabbard. I currently live in sunny Orange County, CA. By day I am a project manager working in the aerospace industry, but by night a music blogger for yours truly, Exron Music! I have been writing for Exron Music for around eight months now and cannot wait to see what is to come throughout the years. At festivals and clubs, you will find me at any house and techno stage supporting my favorites Eli Brown or Dom Dolla, or belting every word to Porter Robinson tracks wherever he performs.
