SOFI TUKKER Share Touching Message About Kaskade and deadmau5 Collaboration “Sacrifice”

Quadruple the superstars, quadruple the star power: A formula proven by Kx5 and SOFI TUKKER’s new single ‘Sacrifice,’ streaming everywhere now.

‘Sacrifice’ is a four-way collaborative effort by Kx5 (deadmau5 and Kaskade) and SOFI TUKKER, featuring vocals from the latter’s Sophie Hawley-Weld. Balancing the fine line between a powerful emotional ballad and catchy dance track, the single tells the story of one deciding between following one’s dreams or one’s loved one–and ultimately choosing oneself.

“This song stings with the truth,” SOFI TUKKER shared. “It’s ultimately about ambition and choosing yourself and your job over someone you love. It’s one of our favorite songs we’ve ever written, in part because it comes from such an honest and real place.”

Kx5 is a long time in the making. deadmau5 and Kaskade first collaborated in 2008 with their track ‘I Remember’ which completely changed the electronic music landscape through the juxtaposition of its heartfelt lyrics and pulsing dance beat (in fact, SOFI TUKKER refer to it as “one of our favorite songs of all time”). 

After a couple more collaborations throughout the years and a sold-out show featuring a surprise closing set from the duo, deadmau5 and Kaskade officially joined forces in 2022 as Kx5. They released a few singles last year, including ‘Escape’ featuring Hayla and ‘Avalanche’ featuring James French, and are preparing for their self-titled debut album release on March 17 for which ‘Sacrifice’ is a lead single.

“[‘Sacrifice’ is] not the style of song we usually create, which tends to be more fun and light. So collabing with deadmau5 and Kaskade for their Kx5 project felt like the perfect fit,” SOFI TUKKER explained regarding the partnership between the electronic tour-de-forces. “They bring it into this dark techno world which amplifies the drama while making you dance. Somehow it feels so appropriate to have that soft emotional vocal followed by such a dark drop.”

SOFI TUKKER is a musically trailblazing duo in their own right. Made up of Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern, their take on electronic music is all about inclusivity, global unity, and self-empowerment. With bonafide hits like ‘Best Friend’ and ‘Wet Tennis,’ the duo has both commercial and underground success. They’ve achieved Gold records on 5 continents; gained over a billion streams; and collaborated with some major players in the genre and beyond including John Summit, Pabllo Vittar, and Bomba Estéreo–and have now added Kx5 to their admirable roster.
