Porter Robinson Says “Music Saved His Life” After “Low Point” Before Nurture Album

Two years after the release of his most personal album ‘Nurture’, Porter Robinson reveals the power of music in changing his life.

Hot off his fiery performance at the first weekend of Coachella, Porter Robinson opens up about the role of music in his life. The Grammy-nominated artist made his fourth appearance at the massive festival this year, marked by a different way he delivered his performance on stage.

Some fans may be familiar with only seeing Porter Robinson behind the decks. However, the multi-talented star revealed in a recent interview that he “wanted to take on a different role” by “playing way more guitar than I’ve ever played before.” As an artist who has been highly outspoken about his struggles with mental health, Porter Robinson did not shield away from addressing his depression during his creative low points.

Referring to the period when he was making the ‘Nurture’ album, the artist shed light on the days when he had to “try really hard” because “it’s like this act of total surrender and openness and willingness” to be vulnerable on the record. He wants the fans to know that the experiences of coming out of those dark periods are worth it as he fully embraced the healing power of making music.

At Coachella last week, Porter Robinson brought out surprise guest Madeon to perform their collaboration, “Shelter.” Throughout his set, he vividly projects visuals such as “music saved his life” on the screen to remind the audience of his inspiration. This time, he is ready to charge ahead with a new era where he honors his own creative artistry. He shared, “It’s so addictive, seeking the approval and the excitement and getting recognized and all those things. But you don’t want to lose your own space and your own time. I think about those things a lot.”

As the fans anticipate more new music from Porter Robinson, we can all celebrate his true devotion to valuing happiness and sanity in his creative songwriting.
