‘Cancel Culture Allows Some People to Pretend to Be Victims’ Says VVVYD in Bassnectar Interview

In a recent discussion on his The Other Side podcast, Bassnectar sits down with fellow musician VVVYD to discuss cancel culture.

Content published through Bassnectar’s exclusive online media platform, The Other Side, is typically gated behind a paywall. However, Bassnectar shared a clip from the interview with fans on Instagram. Although just a quick preview, the discussion presented a powerful message: cancel culture is dangerous.

“And not only does cancel culture allow some people to pretend to be victims, but it insists that any man who a random woman had made an accusation about is automatically guilty,” says VVVYD in the opening of the clip. VVVYD is an artist, The Other Side Team Leader, and creator of Siren Sound Syndicate. Siren Sound Syndicate is the production and promotion company Bassnectar has been working with as of recent.

On cancel culture, VVVYD continues, “Not only does it mandate that an innocent person be treated as guilty, but it goes even further; cancel culture insists that it has the right to exact punishment.” To tie this back to Bassnectar, she says she can’t imagine someone doing that to her brother or son, and expressed her condolences for what the artist has experienced himself at the hands of cancel culture.

Whether someone is in the camp of cancel culture or not, no one can deny the substantial impact that cancel culture has on our society, and the potentially devastating impact it can bring to individuals. Bassnectar has been at the center of cancel culture for four years now. In 2020, various sexual misconduct allegations against the artist began to come to light.

There is currently a pending civil trial due to a lawsuit made by one of Bassnectar’s alleged victims. As far as we could find, the trial is now pushed back until 2025.
