Zedd and deadmau5 to Star in New DisneyPlus Series

The band is getting back together, along with some special guest stars: EDM legends Zedd and deadmau5 to star in “The Muppets Mayhem,” a new DisneyPlus series streaming May 10.

Picture this: Your favorite old-school band is getting back together to create their magnum opus album–and, funnily enough, the only recorded album of their 45-year-long career. Mix in some modern-day legends across genres (hello, Zedd and deadmau5), ferocious stan groups (do the names Bey-hive and Swifties ring a bell?), and some not-quite-human musicians, and you’ve got a pretty good idea of the hilarity and heart to ensue in “The Muppets Mayhem.”

“The Muppets Mayhem” stars The Muppets’ Electric Mayhem band–featuring revered members Dr. Teeth, Animal, Floyd Pepper, Janice, Zoot, and Lips–and (human) actress Lilly Singh as a young music executive. According to the official trailer which dropped two days ago, “The Muppets Mayhem” will be mockumentary-style, following the band through their trials and tribulations of recording their first album amidst the modern music scene. The Muppets Mayhem Zedd deadmau5

Russian-German DJ Anton Zaslavski, better known by his stage name Zedd, is one of these newfangled modern-day musicians who’s taking center stage in the DisneyPlus show. Zedd posted his cameo clip in the official trailer to his Instagram a day ago, which depicts him collaborating with The Electric Mayhem themselves. However, none of the furry band members seem to know what electronic music is, making for some pretty hilarious moments.

Zedd’s post was met with overwhelmingly positive response. Fellow DJs @meduzamusic commented, “This is going to be amazing,” while @bohnes wrote, “Dude this is you peaking.” The same went for Canadian DJ Joel Thomas Zimmerman, aka deadmau5, who also posted the full official trailer on his Instagram. In deadmau5’s scene, The Electric Mayhem is shown wearing his signature Mau5 head–and not getting along too well with it.

Most of the comments on deadmau5’s post poke fun at the fact that The Walt Disney Company sued the DJ over similarities between his stage headgear and Mickey Mouse himself. While the dispute was settled in 2015, fans haven’t forgotten. One user commented, “The Mouse let you wear the Mau5 head in their own movie?! What a time to be alive,” with another writing, “if they cant beat you, they will join you.”

Other music powerhouses are sprinkled throughout the trailer, including Steve Aoki, Lil Nas X, Paula Abdul, Tommy Lee, and more. “The Muppets Mayhem” is sure to be a rock n’ rolling good time–catch the series on DisneyPlus starting on May 10.
