Coachella Breaks Curfew Three Nights in a Row and Suffers $117k Fine

Coachella’s headling artists, Frank Ocean, Calvin Harris, and Bad Bunny each broke their set curfew during their weekend 1 sets.

Weekend 1 of Coachella 2023 just finished and there were many exciting things that happened to say the least. Many artists broke through Coachella for the first time and showcased their talent for all attendees and all livestream viewers. As magical and special as Coachella is it does have its dark days and unfortunately glimpses of those dark days resulted in a $117,000 curfew breach fine.

Since 2013, Coachella has had to follow Indio’s strict curfew regulations. The curfew for Fridays and Saturdays is set at 1 a.m. respectively, while it is at midnight on Sundays. That agreement states that Goldenvoice will be fined $20,000 each time a performance goes past curfew, plus $1,000 a minute starting at the sixth minute after that curfew.

People all over the world attend Coachella, therefore it makes sense that the city of Indio has its guidelines. The purpose of these rules is to keep both the people and the community safe while providing an amazing experience.

Three performers, including two of the festival’s headliners, played past their set times and dipped past curfew. Bad Bunny, went 25 minutes over on Friday, Calvin Harris went 22 minutes over on Saturday and Frank Ocean went 25 minutes over on Sunday. Frank Ocean received the most backlash following his performance due to starting an hour late, switching up production at the last minute, and of course having to end early. “Guys, I’m being told it’s curfew, so that’s the end of the show. Thank you so much,” Ocean said abruptly after a song.

Lastly, the second weekend of Coachella 2023 will take place on April 21-23. Frank Ocean is due to return alongside fellow headliners BLACKPINK and Bad Bunny. For more information be sure to follow Coachella for the latest updates.

My name is Sebastian Medina and I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Ever since I could remember, I have always been in love with dance music. I appreciate all genres and sub-genres but I definitely gravitate towards house and techno. Being from LA I was blessed with an amazing nightlife full of different artists coming in and out of town throughout the years. Some of my favorite artists include Seth Troxler, Michael Bibi, Mr.Carmack, PAWSA, and Folamour.
