Porter Robinson Announces Release Date of Third Studio Album and Says it’s the ‘Most Heartbreaking’ Yet

Legendary American producer Porter Robinson has revealed that his third album, ‘SMILE! :D,’ will arrive on July 26th, 2024.

On March 1st, 2024, the great Porter Robinson whipped the dance music world into a frenzy with four simple words: “The album is done.” Since that fateful day, Porter has dropped the first single, “Cheerleader,” but hadn’t revealed many more details about the forthcoming project – until now. Porter has posted on Instagram to tell fans that his third album, ‘SMILE! :D,’ will come out on July 26th, 2024.

The post, which features three pictures of a giant inflatable Porter sprite, also gave fans some insight into the creation of the album. “The album I was TRYING to write was this nonstop party – NO sincerity, ALL fun, an album that revels in absurdity for a world that rejects context,” he wrote. “And that was the plan until I accidentally started confessing how I was really feeling, and… you’ll hear the rest.”

Porter Robinson ended the post with some tantalizing teasers about the nature of ‘SMILE! :D.’ He called it simultaneously his “most fun,” “maybe most heartbreaking,” and “most interesting” album to date – bold claims for the man behind ‘Worlds’ and ‘Nurture,’ two fascinating projects laced with excitement and heavy emotion. Several producers hopped into the comment section immediately to express their excitement for the new album to drop, including Rezz, Blanke, Wavedash, and Yetep.

‘SMILE! :D’ can’t come fast enough for Porter’s loyal fanbase that has followed him since he began releasing music fourteen years ago. It’s been a long three years since his last full-length release, and the final three months will surely feel even longer. If the pop-inspired “Cheerleader” is any indication, this new album will usher in a whole new stylistic era for Porter Robinson’s unmatched creativity and artistic honesty.
