Watch Skrillex Win His First GRAMMY in 2012 for ‘Cinema’ Remix

Twelve years ago, a young and wild Skrillex would accept his first Grammy Awards not knowing this was only the beginning.

In 2012, Sonny John Moore, known professionally as Skrillex, won a prestigious award for his hit single “Cinema”. From Myspace to the big stage, the American recorder and producer made history in the electronic dance music community at the 54th Grammy Awards.

In November of 2011, Sonny received five Grammy nominations, including Best New Artist, and won three: Best Dance/ Electronica Album (‘Scary Monsters And Nice Spirits’), Best Dance Recording (“Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites”), and Best Remixed Recording, Non-Classical (“Cinema [Skirllex Remix]”).

Sonny Moore, famously known as Skrillex, accepted his first Grammy Award in 2012.

When Sonny received the “Cinema [Skrillex Remix” award, the electronic producer mentioned how he created the award-winning song in his bedroom only a year and a half before winning a Grammy award. Sonny More entered his solo career under the alias Skrillex in 2008. In the early summer of 2010, Moore would release his official Skrillex debut EP “My Name is Skrillex” as a free download.

As Skrillex accepted his first Grammy award, he wholesomely pulled out his phone saying “I didn’t know if I was going to win or if anything was going to happen, but I want to thank some people”. Proper shout-outs were made sure to be given to fellow mates Porter Robinson, Zedd, his family, his agent, and his team. Moreover, Sonny accepted the award on behalf of the electronic music dance community stating “This award means a lot for us“.

Yoooo, the homies call me Marz. I am a multidimensional Piscean Latina fairy from Miami-Dade County (no, not Florida). Electronic music has allowed me to appreciate the profound beauty that can be found in finding peace within the chaos. Artists such as Rezz, Skrillex, John Summit, Michael Bibi, and Amtrac blend the two seamlessly, creating a harmonious balance that resonates with me whenever I am on the dancefloor. When I am writing about electronic music, I feel this same balance of peace and chaos moving through me - starting in my hips, filling my heart, and radiating out from my soul. The power of music has brought me to this exact moment, and I only desire that you feel the warmth of the sun through my words.
