Most Impactful Female Dance Music Artists in 2023

Despite Beyoncè’s historic win for Best Dance/Electronic Music Album for Renaissance at this year’s Grammy’s, many women in the edm space are still being ignored.

There is a long list of female producers and artists making waves in the industry across electronic dance genres. Here are a few female-identifying artist just getting started or continuing to remind us how incredible they are one the 1s and 2s and beyond the DJ booth and studio.

Peggy Gou

Peggy Gou has been taking the House music scene by storm with her unique house and techno blend in her music. She has expanded her passion for creating art to other avenues that touch the rave world including fashion and her own music label, Gudu Records. She’s still making hits with big artists including her latest single with legend Lenny Kravitz. She was also named the #1 House DJ in DJ Mag’s Top 100 DJ List.

Alison Wonderland

Alison Wonderland’s signature sound has touched everything from pop and electronica to bass and trap. Balancing delicate vocals with hard-hitting basslines, her DJ sets combine darker aesthetics with heart-pounding mixes. Her latest set at EDC Las Vegas this year exhibited this and more. Alison continues to be vocal online and in her music about taking care of one’s mental health and her own struggles with anxiety and social media.

Aluna

She first hit our ears as a part of the electronic music duo AlunaGeorge with their hit single “You Know You Like It” that rocked the clubs in 2013. Since then, her one of a kind tone has explored new avenues of the genre on her debut solo album MYCELiUM that was released this year. Aluna has also created space for Black and LGBTQ+ artists in the dance music industry with her music collective Noir Fever. Her voice and budding sound is expected to give us even more bops for the dance floor in 2024.

Jayda G

Jayda G’s house music has added one of the most exciting sparks to the genre. Her career has been on an upward trend since her nomination in the Best Dance Recording category at the 2021 Grammy Awards for her hit song “Both of Us.” Working double time as an environmental toxicologist on the side, Jayda G is pursuing the dream 24/7 and it can only get bigger from this point on. Her latest album Guy features even more House anthems to get down to.

Nicole Moudaber

Nicole Moudaber is still taking it up a notch in addition to being one of the most sought out EDM artists, event promoters, record label founders, and radio hosts. She recently premiered a 3D world and avatar at her show this past summer, taking her Techno sets to another level. Her latest single ‘Rise Up’ is a continuation of the storytelling and empowerment in her music.

Uncle Waffles

Amapiano DJ Uncle Waffles has given stage presence as a house music producer a new name. Uncle Waffles has been a part of the movement to bring amapiano, a subgenre of House music from South Africa, to a global stage. The infectious dance beats and smooth melodies of the sound infuse elements of jazz, house, hip hop and more that keeps even Uncle Waffles herself moving behind and in front of the booth. Uncle Waffles’ latest album Solace showcases the wide range of Amapiano sound.

Honey Dijon

Honey Dijon is making her mark beyond the underground house music scene this year. From the home of house music itself, Honey mastered her mixes by observing the best in the genre’s birthplace. She’s worked with some of the biggest legends in the music industry in the past couple of years including Madonna and Beyoncè.

Kelela

Kelela has floated between the R&B and EDM space since her first project as an artist. Her latest album Raven hit the perfect sweet spot while telling stories of love, loss, identity and more. Raven received incredible reviews for its seamless transitions from atmospheric, ethereal sounds into intense, syncopated beats when needed to get the listener lost even further into the story being told.

Nora En Pure

A force to be reckoned with, deep house artist Nora En Pure is all about artistry with no limits. Nora En Pure has sold out shows around the work including New York City’s Brooklyn Mirage. Her latest single ‘Emerald Skies’ is an atmospheric trip into her world.

Yaeji

Yaeji’s highly-anticipated album With A Hammer somehow introduced a whole new element to the NYC DJ’s unique sound. The album made it on Pitchfork’s Best Albums of 2023. As her work continues to be introspective and hard-hitting for the dance floor, the ceiling is non-existent for whatever she has up her sleeve next.

Hi! My name is Destine and I found a love for House and EDM through my time in the NYC dance community. My favorite thing about music is how it brings people together without having to say a word. Some of my favorite artists include Kaytranada, Kelela, Shygirl, and Uncle Waffles.
