Gene Farris Criticizes Grammys for Underrepresenting Black Artists in House Music

Gene Farris has slammed the Grammy’s for lacking in real House Music talent representation, especially for black artists.

House music artist Gene Farris took to Instagram to call out the Grammys for being the “Shammys.” He believes that black artists deserved more recognition than what was given when it came to house music at the event. Gene Farris is from Chicago – where house music originated from.

Gene Farris made a lengthy post and dove into how black artists got played big time and even took a hit at that this is something that happens per usual. The Chicago-based artists said that not representing black artists at the Grammys is like having a country music category with no country people in the category, hip hop with no rappers, and rock and roll with no white guys.

There was no holding back with his opinion on the lack of representation. Gene Farris slammed the Grammy’s for me “Blasphemy at its finest.” He played the reason for music getting more and more corny and s****y on the overall lack as well due to the people with real talent getting less and less motivated to make music because it feels pointless when commercial sound is getting all the acknowledgment.

Gene Farris said that real talented house music artists are better than just Beyonce remixes and that “he said what he said.” He noted that all opinions are his own and that his message is his “two cents as a person of color who’s been making house music for over 30 years.”

People in the comments highlighted that they can feel the commercial takeover at big events as well. One person said: “I’m so tired of seeing festival lineups and the originators of the music are nowhere to be found. Insert generic European bedroom producer.”

Gene Farris has tons of experience when it comes to House music and has even been referred to as a “bonafide Chicago legend” when it comes to the genre. He has pushed music boundaries as a DJ, producer, and record label owner. The house artist is also highly recognized for performing at underground warehouse parties in the early 90s which led to working with huge names.
