As the anniversary of i_o’s tragic death recently passed, fans have been reminiscing on his music and lasting legacy.

Three years ago, the dance community mourned the death of techno producer and DJ i_o. Having died unexpectedly at 30, i_o has left a lasting impact on fans and the artists he collaborated with. In the wake of the anniversary of i_o’s death, fans remember and mourn the artist.

On November 23, 2020, Garret Lockhart, otherwise known as i_o, tragically passed away of natural causes. i_o was known for his techno productions and attracted many collaborations throughout his career. He worked with artists such as Rezz, Grimes, and deadmau5.

With i_o’s long list of collaborations and general influence in the dance community, many mourned his death in 2020. In 2022, i_o’s family released ‘Warehouse Summer,’ an album of the last tracks he produced with Canadian singer Lights. As ‘Warehouse Summer’ was released on the second anniversary of his death, fans looked back on the album and i_o’s legacy.

As fans looked back on i_o’s career, many said that ‘Warehouse Summer’ was the album that got them into the artist. Besides his post-humous album, i_o was best known for his trilogy of EPs, his collaboration with Grimes on “Violence,” and the fan favorite “Castles In The Sky.” Many fans mentioned “Castles In The Sky,” saying the song was “on repeat today” and hoping that i_o was “flying high at the castle in the sky.”

While many fans commented on their origins with i_o and his music, others simply commented “444ever.” “444ever” alludes to i_o’s trilogy of EPs, Project 444, which creates an album that spans his journey in dance music. The 444 motif also exists on his imprint, Label 444, which existed to host i_o’s dark underground music.

As a budding techno DJ and producer, i_o had plenty left to show the world. Taken too soon, i_o has left a lasting legacy with his fans and the figureheads of the dance community.
