Kaskade and deadmau5’s Supergroup Kx5 Garners Grammy Nomination in First Year of Project

After releasing a self-titled debut album packed with hits, the powerhouse that is Kx5 has scored a Grammy nomination.

Kaskade and deadmau5 have been two of the most recognizable names in electronic dance music since they began their careers. The two have been active for decades, carefully aiding in how house music sounds today. Now that they have teamed up, Kx5 has found their record, ‘Kx5,’ in the “Best Dance/Electronic Album” category at the Grammy Awards.

The producers are no strangers to the Grammys, though, as they have both been nominated a handful of times. Kaskade has six past nominations under his belt for an album and multiple remixes. deadmau5 has also been nominated six times in the same categories.

Kx5 informally came together for the first time in 2008 with the release of “I Remember” and officially announced the project when they dropped “Escape” featuring Hayla in 2022. The single has gone on to gain over 110 million streams across platforms. The song was nominated for an iHeart Radio Music Award and won another from BBC Radio 1

On top of “Escape,” the album includes tracks like “Alive” featuring The Moth & The Flame and “Sacrifice” with Sofi Tukker. Elderbrook and AR/CO, the band Brother, and singer-songwriters Richard Walters and James French are all included on the album. The mix of artists curates a dynamic album with elements from various parts of the scene. 

Other nominees in the “Best Dance/Electronic Album” category include ‘Actual Life 3 (January 1 – September 9, 2022)’ by Fred again.. and ‘Quest For Fire’ by Skrillex. James Blake’s ‘Playing Robots Into Heaven’ and The Chemical Brothers’ ‘For That Beautiful Feeling’ are also up for the award.
