Diplo and Chris Rock Escape Burning Man Together After “6 Mile Walk”

Marking a trend of festival mishaps this past weekend, Diplo and Chris Rock recount their escape from Burning Man together.

Torrential rainfalls, Ebola rumors, and shelters-in-place – oh my!  The sprawling campground was met with pouring rains that left nearly 70,000 attendees stranded under a shelter-in-place all weekend. Naturally, Diplo took to social media to recount his fortunate escape prior thereto – with none other than Chris Rock.

One of the most loyally attended festivals in the U.S., Burning Man organizers and attendees experienced the unimaginable this year. On Friday night, heavy rains marred the Nevada desert area dubbed Black Rock City, creating panic and confusion in the public. Such rains caused the postponement of the festival’s iconic closing ceremony, but that was certainly the least of their worries.

In true Diplo form, the DJ/producer made light of a sticky situation with a series of posts on Instagram and Twitter. According to Diplo, he and comedian Chris Rock had to walk 6 miles to escape the campgrounds before a fan graciously offered them a ride. In a reel on Instagram, Diplo also teased that following the trek “all Chris could think about was a f***ing cold brew.”

Burning Man was not the only festival to experience its fair share of woes.  Notoriously, NYC’s own Electric Zoo Festival canceled Day 1 after failing to address outstanding safety violations. Furthermore, festivalgoers encountered exorbitant waits both to enter and exit the festival, and thousands stampeded the entrance on Day 3.

Nonetheless, Diplo shared several posts reminding fans that “Ebola Man/Rain Man” was not without its highlights. From egg tacos with Willie Nelson to DJing a hot-air balloon, Diplo proved that even rain couldn’t dim their shine. What’s more, I’d bet my bottom dollar that we’ll see him right back there same time next year.

Ultimately, this year’s Burning Man showed festivalgoers that nature waits for no human. Let’s cross our fingers that the next round of festivals will have better luck in terms of weather and logistics! For more information on Burning Man, click here.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now, I am finishing up law school and hope to merge my passions by working in the music industry. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list items to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and ADE in the Netherlands. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Kevin de Vries, Eli Brown, and John Summit.
