Diplo Completes LA Marathon While Under the Influence of LSD

In an amusing turn of events, DJ/producer Diplo recently completed the LA Marathon in less than four hours while under the influence of LSD.

From organizing a rave inside a deli to being denied a Billboard Music Awards seat, Diplo certainly knows how to keep the music industry on its toes. Naturally, Diplo took to Instagram to celebrate completing a marathon, while tripping on acid no less. The news took the internet by storm, with fans and critics alike having something to say about the matter.

Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz, is no stranger to pushing boundaries. The Grammy-nominated artist has definitely made a name for himself, producing hit tracks for icons like Justin Bieber and Beyonce. However, few expected him to attempt a marathon while under the influence of mind-altering drugs.

In a video recap, Diplo showed himself adding drops of LSD to his water bottle before the race. It is unclear what his motivation was for taking LSD before the marathon, aside from perhaps his own recreational affinities.  Moreover, there’s no substantial medical evidence that dosing psychedelics enhances athletic performance.

It takes months of preparation and training to complete the race, with many taking years to achieve a sub-four-hour time. Interestingly, there is no indication that Diplo underwent any meaningful training for the race beyond his normal exercise routine.  Nonetheless, the music star publicly set out to beat Oprah Winfrey’s 1994 PR of 4:29 – perhaps for shock value.

Despite the potential risks, he managed to complete the race in an impressive time of 3 hours and 55 minutes. He was seen crossing the finish line with a huge smile on his face, clearly ecstatic with his achievement.

This recent story generated mixed responses from the public. While many have praised Diplo for his athleticism and endurance, others have criticized him for promoting drug use. The use of LSD is illegal in most parts of the world, and experts warn of the potential dangers of taking the drug in high-pressure environments.

While Diplo declined to comment on the controversy, fans continue to express their admiration and support for the artist on social media. Some have even hailed him as a modern-day superhero, able to achieve incredible feats while under the influence. Notably, the incident also sparked debate about the use of drugs in sports and their effects on the body.

While some argue that drugs can enhance athletic performance, others point out the dangers and risks associated with drug use, including addiction, physical harm, and legal repercussions. Regardless of the commotion, Diplo’s achievement is an impressive one. Undoubtedly, his name will go down in marathon history as one of the most unconventional runners to ever cross the finish line.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now, I am finishing up law school and hope to merge my passions by working in the music industry. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list items to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and ADE in the Netherlands. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Kevin de Vries, Eli Brown, and John Summit.
