Exron Music: What inspired your new track “Loving You?”

I set out to make a high-energy Tech House leaning track but when I came across the vocal, I switched gears. Immediately, I knew this had to be a focus and incorporate more melodic elements than I originally intended. I wanted the end product to retain the Bass House vibe but be juxtaposed with soft, soulful melodies. Also added breakbeat drums which carry through.

Exron Music: What are some upcoming events you are performing at that you’re most excited about?

I’m playing support for Whipped Cream this month, looking forward to that. Going to be a massive show and I’ll get the opportunity to play different stuff than I typically do. Also, The Chicago Bulls are in season now so I have a bunch of pregame sets on deck at the stadium (United Center).

Exron Music: What has been your favorite part of the podcast so far and what drew you to start the podcast?

Lots of highlights. It’s been amazing being able to host so many A-list DJs and producers. Recently I had Don Diablo, Bingo Players, and MOTi on the show. I like to mix it up with Top 100 DJs, up-and-coming producers, and also club DJs that have been crushing it for years in the real world. Career DJs don’t get enough credit. I myself am an open-format DJ even though I focus on Electronic music now. There is so much talent out there, genres, and it’s been great getting to tap in with so many artists on a personal level.

Exron Music: Is there anyone you’re looking forward to hosting on your podcast soon?

Yes! The Chainsmokers are joining the show for my 100th episode which airs at the end of the year. HUGE. It’s definitely maintaining greatness.

Exron Music: Have you learned anything that has shocked you while hosting?

I’ve learned a lot. There is so much that goes into airplay. From DJ and Label promos to syndication. It’s a brand-new business that I’m excited to have learned and to keep moving with.

Exron Music: You and your girlfriend Heather have been together for a steady 8 years, how did you know she was the one and what is your favorite part about your relationship?

That’s a long list. She’s kind, smart, and beautiful. She is supportive of my goals as I am with hers. We laugh a lot. That’s my favorite.

Exron Music: What is some advice you have for keeping a long-term relationship while in the music industry?

Not to get caught up in all the noise that comes with a career in nightlife. Treat it as a business – but I mean, of course, have fun also. It’s amazing to have a career as a professional partier – I wouldn’t trade it for anything – but it’s equally important to know when to go to bed lol. There are many ways to network that don’t include all-nighters and benders. Just work smart.

Exron Music: What is your most cherished part about DJing?

The music, it’s always been about the music. The discovery, the creation. And sharing it in your own way.

Exron Music: How would you describe your style of music and DJing in a few words?

High-energy hybrid house. Bass-heavy, genre-bending, party music.

Exron Music: You performed at the women’s U.S Soccer WNT in a duo with DJ Amy Robbins, how was performing at the soccer game different compared to performing for a festival crowd?

It’s super different but the energy is similar. That was Megan Rapinoe’s farewell soccer match, it was unforgettable. Amy Robbins is an incredible DJ. She asked me to join her for this game which was so cool. She also does the in-game music for all US Soccer and Fox Sports so it was neat to learn what goes into that – the direction over the headsets, etc. Timing is everything which is similar to festival DJing in that regard.

Exron Music: Do you have any certain special processes you go through when it comes to coming up with new ideas/creating your tracks?

I’m always trying new things. There is little that is consistent about my approach; it really differs from track to track. Make it bang, that’s the end result.
