Argy Celebrates Multi-Genre Sound in New Album With Afterlife [Interview]

Argy has transcended boundaries recently with his hot track “Aria,” and a newly released album with Afterlife –  “New World.”

The multi-genre influential DJ Argy effortlessly took the music industry by storm. His sound has become one of the most recognizable thanks to his top hits that instantly impressed many. Argy’s Miami Music Week performances included a spectacular set at Ultra‘s Cove Stage, plus a special appearance at M2 for RESISTANCE. Exron Music had the pleasure of chatting with Argy at the EDMAs at Eden Roc in Miami about new ventures in his career.

We spoke with Argy about his new album, the process of making the album’s tracks, and how quickly his hit single “Aria” with Omnya gained traction. In the interview, we also dove into his new BBC essential mix, how he is on Spotify’s hottest radar, his consistent appearances with Afterlife, and his outlook on the Afterlife visuals.

Agry said his “New World” album comes from the fact that your emotions and your feelings can change your reality. He essentially changed his sound to make this album, and that is where the name “New World” came from. Further, he explained that his new album is a celebration of the new sound that has been brought to the table.

Argy said his new tracks include lyrics that aren’t exactly what you’d consider traditional lyrics. There are a lot of vocals but they’re not actual lyrics, as the vocals are more like chants that he blended with the melodic techno. The album is also influenced by other genres that Argy likes including psytrance, melodic techno, house, and old-school sounds.

Argy noted that albums in dance music don’t come very often and that his album is like a marathon of sounds that would be “good for a workout album.” We spoke about how “Aria” is one of the most recognizable techno songs out there right now. Argy said he believes the success of “Aria” is due to the fact that it is melodic techno but it also isn’t.

When prompted to explore this more, he explained that “Aria” sits within the melodic techno genre but is not fully melodic techno because it is a bit more niche than that record. Also, he noted that his track is more ethnic and house-sounding. There’s even a little bit of psytrance in “Aria” too which highlights Argy’s ability to combine multiple genres seamlessly.

We also dove into what it is like to perform at consistent Afterlife events and Argy’s first take was no one really understands how much goes into making the visuals. He explained the Afterlife team spent years perfecting their iconic visuals for them to achieve the expertise and wow factor.
