Rezz Faces Backlash For Breaking Curfew at NYE Show

Rezz attempted to play another thirty minutes on New Year’s Eve to surprise fans but was abruptly shut down due to a “miscommunication.”

Beloved DJ and producer Rezz was very busy on New Year’s Eve weekend. She performed magic, a.k.a. made it from Hijinx festival in Philly all the way to Jackpot NYE in Las Vegas. Jackpot took place at the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center and also featured the likes of deadmau5, Porter Robinson, and Ghost RYDR (Ghastly and Joyride), among other major names in dance music.

Rezz performed on the second and final day of the event, Saturday evening, to ring in the new year with fans and fellow DJs. She had the last time slot of the night, and according to her IG post, she wanted to surprise fans by playing an extra 30 minutes than originally planned for. However, it appears the extra time actually pushed the event past curfew, which can yield a costly fine for venues and promoters.

Most fans didn’t question Rezz’s intentions, but of course, some felt it was her responsibility to cut the set to avoid playing past the curfew. In response to the incident, Rezz said: HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!!! I wanted to play an unplanned additional 30 minutes lastnight but there had much some mis communication about what time the curfew was >.< so we got abruptly shut down but that’s ok. Wishing everyone the best new year and thank u for everything always ❣ ”

Some of the positive comments read, “Rezz in the rain was the perfect way to end 2022 in Vegas! Thank you space mom we love you sm” while another said, “Thank you for such a memorable night!”

However, Rezz did receive some backlash on Twitter, and she responded accordingly. One Twitter user said, “You didn’t get abruptly shut down if you knew your set ended at 1am [laughing crying emoji].” Another said, “Who is her manager what is her deal with not understanding time this year lmao.”

Rezz responded to both instances with grace, as seen in the following tweets:

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
