deadmau5 Denies Rumors that Mouse Helmet Caused Neck Issues

According to deadmau5, his famous helmet is actually not the reason for his neck pain, despite joking that it was during an interview.

In a recent interview ahead of his co-headlining show with Kaskade as DJ duo Kx5, deadmau5 alluded to his helmet being the cause of neck issues he’s developed. In a discussion about the helmet, deadmau5 said, “I’m actually going back to my chiropractor tonight, actually, for some x-rays.” When the reporter said the helmet looked heavy, deadmau5 chuckled and replied, “a few doctors would agree.”

Around the same time, deadmau5 shared a photo to his Instagram feed of a crooked neck in an x-ray image. The DJ captioned the photo, “Wear a mouse head” they said. “It’ll be fun!” They said. One fan commented, “It’s from carrying the entire EDM community on your shoulders this whole time.” Another said, “I guess you can just be Testpilot from now on.”

deadmau5 made a follow-up post just a day later in an attempt to clarify the helmet comments were just a joke. He claimed that he was experiencing neck issues, but they likely were not related to the helmet.

In the post, he said, “Just to be clear, since the idiots at @mixmag decided to have a field day with it…. my neck is messed up from probably sleeping like an idiot, or slouching behind a computer. I doubt wearing a mouse head has much to do with it. I just posted a lolsy quote with it. My neck is fine ish, I just need to straighten my shit up. it’s all good. Just sore. RELAX! we good. 🙂 excited for the show this weekend!!!!!!”

deadmau5 and long-time friend and collaborator Kaskade are currently preparing for their biggest show yet at the L.A. Memorial Coliseum in front of close to 100k fans. The massive show will take place on December 10th, and will mark twelve years since the two DJs played together at the venue, long before Kx5 was conceived.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
