Anyma and Grimes Launch New Music Project After Coachella Performance: The Last Artists

After a chaotic Coachella weekend one performance, Grimes and Afterlife beau Anyma have announced the launch of their new project together.

Grimes and Anyma’s romance started after they collaborated on “Welcome to the Opera” and they have now announced a dual project titled ‘The Last Artists.’ Announced via a blank Instagram account after weekend one of Coachella, the unlikely yet somehow fitting duo has come together again.

Coachella weekend one was nothing less than disastrous for the indie artist, DJ, and producer Grimes, who had a technical and physical meltdown on the Sahara Stage. Claiming to have outsourced the Rekordbox BPMs, let a third party organize her tracks, and then had trouble with the decks increasing the BPM, she repeatedly yelped outcries for help (or frustration) during her set.

On the Sunday of weekend one, Anyma helped her redeem her poor showing from the previous night when he brought Grimes out to debut their new project, ‘The Last Artists.’ While not the first time they have performed together, Grimes and Anyma debuted multiple new IDs in their space villain-inspired outfits. While on stage the duo displayed great stage chemistry that only can continue to allude to the rumors of their romance.

Anyma, of Afterlife fame, is the musical genius behind “Syren,” “Eternity,” “Simulation,” and just released a new album earlier this year titled ‘Genesys II.’ Anyma is known for his deep bassline, enigmatic yet intriguing buildups, and mesmerizing visuals. During Grimes’ Coachella set it was easy to see his influence in her visuals, and maybe some inspiration from Alison Wonderland’s project the Whyte Fang.

Grimes and Anyma take on Coachella weekend two this upcoming weekend, once again at the Sahara Stage on Saturday and Sunday respectively. It is curious to see if the two artists will switch up their sets and if Grimes will rejoin Anyma on stage for his set to debut new music under the alias, ‘The Last Artists.’ On the flip side, maybe Anyma will join Grimes during her set to spice things up as she has a career-making set to rock weekend two.

Hey! I'm Shiv! Music is the greatest part of my life, I remember discovering dubstep when I was 15/16 and my entire life was altered - robot noises?? I needed MORE! Now, I live in NYC and have seen over 60 artists of all genres; my favorites being Odesza, Subtronics, Rezz, Griz, Zeds Dead, John Summit and Kaskade. I am an enjoyer of music and will try everything once, I do not discriminate - there is beauty in all genres (minus country). You can usually find me in a warehouse at 4AM because I am nocturnal and will quite literally never say no to a show.
