Kraftwerk Reveals Rare Residency at LA’s Walt Disney Concert Hall for 2024

Kraftwerk celebrates 50th anniversary of ‘Autobahn’ album with a nine-night residency at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

The German electronic band Kraftwerk will return to the US to play a rare residency at LA’s Walt Disney Concert Hall. This is the band’s first performance in America since October 2022, when they played at Radio City Music Hall in New York.

The residency kicks off in late May for nine consecutive nights in celebration of the 50th anniversary of their inaugural album, ‘Autobahn.’ Kraftwerk’s discography includes 10 studio albums, two live albums, one remix album, and 26 singles. Kraftwerk will perform 8 of their studio albums and will play one complete album each night except their final performance, which will showcase compilations of their entire catalog. The albums that will be performed are ‘Autobahn‘ (1974), ‘Radio-Activity’ (1975), ‘Trans Europe Express’ (1977), ‘The Man-Machine’ (1978), ‘Computer World’ (1981), ‘Techno Pop’ (1986), ‘The Mix’ (1991) and ‘Tour de France’ (2003).

The band was formed in 1970 by Ralf Hütter and Florian Schneider who are widely considered innovators and pioneers of electronic music. Kraftwerk expanded into a quartet after Wolfgang Flür and Karl Bartos joined Kraftwerk in the mid-70s. Since the group’s inception, Hüller has been the only constant member of the four-person band. The group is among the first successful acts to globally popularize the dance music genre, and are described as “the godfathers of electronic music.”

Kraftwerk’s influence began in the early 70s as a part of West Germany’s experience Krautrock scene, fully embracing electronic instrumentation accomplished by synthesizers, drum machines, and vocoders. Their music combines minimalistic elements that are strictly electronic, with driving, repetitive rhythms, and catchy melodies and vocals.

In 2014, Kraftwerk received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award and later won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album with their live ‘3-D The Catalogue‘ in 2018. In 2021, the electronic trailblazers were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for their early influence category of electronic music.

My favorite thing in the whole world is music and after hearing "One" by Swedish House Mafia for the first time in 2014, I was hooked on EDM. Dance music has been a large part of who I am and will always be searching for new ways to incorporate it in my life. The pure bliss that I feel from live shows is a feeling I never want to stop chasing (iykyk). Some of my favorite artists are Flume, Rüfüs Du Sol, Mindchatter, Disclosure, Dom Dolla and Fred Again.. :)
