informal. Rejects Norms With ‘its not that serious’ EP

Informal. releases his latest and spontaneous project, ‘It’s Not That Serious’ EP.

On September 6, Los Angeles-based DJ and producer, informal., released his highly anticipated ‘its not that serious’ EP. This project follows his month-long campaign of releasing one record a week consisting of four stellar tracks titled “porto”, “pretzels11spedup”, “euro club banger”, and “ooh ahh.” The origin of these tracks comes from “just messing around with samples and grooves”, which creates the perfect EP to end summer on.

“Its not that serious” is informal’s. way of showcasing the raw, real, and transparent side of his music. Music production overall deserves a tune-up and hopefully, this campaign will show producers a new way to see their art. Back on August 10, informal. posted on Instagram sharing his opinions on the current state of music release practices. He said “I feel like so much great music goes unheard because of this weird sense of perfectionism” he continued, “I say f**k that, its not that serious.” Stripping away the pressure for perfection, the EP thrives on the imperfections that make each track unique.

Additionally, all four tracks bring their own sound, rhythm, and vibe to the project. The first release, “porto” came to life in a tent and is a combination of both melodic and rhythmic beats. The second track, “pretzels11spedup”, was actually withheld for years and he eventually gave it a listen with a new perspective, sped it up 10-15 bpms, and added a new track.

The third track is titled “euro club banger”, and that’s exactly what you imagine when listening to it. The slight piano in tune with the rapid drops makes for a fun and energetic dancefloor or solo shower party. Last but not least, we have the final track on the EP, “ooh ahh”. After all of the uplifting and energetic records, we finish off with a darker track. “Ooh ahh” is a mixture of synths and wavey bass lines that sound not only mature but refined. This style of music shows audiences a new side to informal’s. sound.

In conclusion, informal. wants other producers to not hold onto music but let go and share it with the masses. The expression “less is more” never fits so well since these tracks are a testament to the fact that sometimes, the most extraordinary moments emerge when you let go of expectations.

My name is Sebastian Medina and I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Ever since I could remember, I have always been in love with dance music. I appreciate all genres and sub-genres but I definitely gravitate towards house and techno. Being from LA I was blessed with an amazing nightlife full of different artists coming in and out of town throughout the years. Some of my favorite artists include Seth Troxler, Michael Bibi, Mr.Carmack, PAWSA, and Folamour.
