Exron Exclusive Interview: Frameworks at Sonic Bloom 2023

We sat down with Manchester-based artist Frameworks at Sonic Bloom Festival for an exclusive interview to learn more about his career and inspirations

Following the release of his breathtaking new studio album ‘REFLECTIONS,’ we caught up with melodic producer Frameworks to learn more about his inspirations and musical background. The talented artist had just finished a sunset set at Sonic Bloom Festival in Rye, Colorado where his ethereal discography effortlessly complemented the scenic landscape as fans danced in bliss.

He commented on the atmosphere of the venue stating, “I really love Sonic Bloom! It’s a great festival and I enjoyed the general vibe just walking around the grounds. I wanted to put forward a performance that was reflective of my sound and where my head is currently at. I think there is only so much pre-production you can do before second-guessing yourself so I wanted to have the most authentic approach possible and to create a space for people to feel whatever they want to feel.”

His performance at Sonic Bloom surrounds many festival appearances this year like Envision in Costa Rica, as well as upcoming performances at Shambala and the new festival Cascade Equinox in Oregon. When asked about the best part about performing at a festival compared to an intimate venue, he said, “I think a festival gives you the opportunity to tap into a vibe that’s more unexpected. You go to a show and you set expectations. Festivals are more free, people wander about and stumble across artists they wouldn’t have gone to see. There are so many different people exploring and I find that exciting – the party can start at any time of the day.”

Diving into his early musical influences growing up in Manchester, Frameworks shared, “I love the community in Manchester. I think the most influential part for me was when I studied Music Performance in college and everyone from my course came from different musical backgrounds. Many people were older and really helped guide me in the right direction both musically and overall attitude.” He shared that some of his direct musical influences are Ian Brown, New Order, and The Cardinals.

Earlier this year, Frameworks released an eleven-track album titled ‘REFLECTIONS’ that shared a very personal and intimate side of the artist as he navigates through his career, family life, and what that all means to him. We asked about his creative process and how this LP differed from his previous work and the UK producer shared, “It doesn’t feel like a big shift for me, I think over time I have felt a natural progression through each release that has led me to this point. Personally, it’s been important to try not to intellectualize what direction I’m trying to move in because then it becomes more of a thought than a feeling. I guess I’ve just gone down this path – why – I have no idea.”

Letting his experiences guide him through life and his craft, ‘REFLECTIONS’ has amassed nearly a million collective streams since its release. Written during the pandemic, each of the tracks displays an authentic and creative display of his craft. Some of the standout tracks on the album include lead single “BLUE LIGHT” with Cleopold, “TWENTY TWO,” “SUNRISE,” and more.

When asked to describe his sound in a few words, Frameworks pondered for a second before stating, “honest, intuitive, and stellar.” Creating an evocative and graceful soundscape with each of his records, Frameworks’ signature sound shines throughout his sets and releases. Over the course of his career, Frameworks has performed at festivals such as Coachella, Electric Forest, Lightning in a Bottle, Envision, Sonic Bloom, and more. Continuing to define his own unique path in the realm of electronic music, Frameworks has built a legacy and fan base with his timeless creations and ability to connect with his audience.

Getting to know a little bit more about the artist, Frameworks shared his passions outside of music to which he immediately mentioned his family. He stated, “Family is a big one for me as I’m very much inspired by my children and the lessons they teach me.”

His talent and raw emotion continue to drive the Frameworks project to success as he takes his inspiration from the life and family around him building a beautiful time capsule of music. He closed the interview by saying he hoped Sonic Bloom fans “felt love and happiness” during his set and flashed an authentic smile.
