What Genre of EDM Is SLANDER?

Fans have been speculating online about what SLANDER’s genre of music is. 

SLANDER’s genre is a blend of melodic bass music, house, and EDM that some have coined “heaven trap.” There has been some debate on whether the EDM duo SLANDER fit into one specific genre. The Grammy-nominated group has produced a sound that has the melodies of house, tempo of dubstep, and tremble of bass music. 

SLANDER has been known for their unique genre-bending sound. Their sound infuses different elements of dance music genres for a piercing, syncopated sound that can’t quite be boxed into one place. They also create tracks that you could hear being played on pop radio stations.

Some consider SLANDER’s genre house while others may hear more heavy dubstep in their sound. Many people have credited SLANDER for starting the subgenre “heaven trap.” The name itself seems contradicting since the trap genre is typically full of heavy bass and deep melodies. 

The “heaven trap” subgenre is inspired by the 808s and melodic vocals cognizant of trap music that originated in hip hop music with the twist of dark melodies in the EDM subgenre. Nonetheless, their music resembles much more of a deep bass sound than anything adjacent to the trap music music lovers are familiar with. The idea of “trap heaven” came about after the release of tracks like “Better Than Heaven,” a melodic track with JT Roach and Jason Ross.

SLANDER’s collaborations with a diverse range of vocalists showcase their fearless approach to blending genres and experimenting with sonic patterns. From working with Halsey to Asking Alexandria and Gryffin, these partnerships have stirred discussions about SLANDER’s genre.

Their willingness to push boundaries suggests they’ll continue evolving their sound. Whether exploring house, trance, or bass, SLANDER remains a pioneering force in EDM.
