In this exclusive interview, we sat down with the New York-based DJ/producer duo Castor & Pollux to delve into their top tracks and releases from last year. The duo shares music that has left a lasting mark on their career through an introspective journey. From their own productions to tracks by other artists, Castor & Pollux share their insights on the songs that have resonated with them throughout the year, sharing a glimpse into their creative process and musical influences.

Exron Music: Can you share your personal top tracks or releases from this year, and what makes each of them special to you?

Castor & Pollux: Some of the key releases this year were definitely our two tracks signed to Revealed Recordings, ‘Walk Away’ with Ozgun and ‘Shot In The Dark’ with Over Easy and Linney. They stand out to us because the Revealed team believed in both to be part of the label, and we saw some great support and press from both once they were both released. In addition, our track ‘Manipulate’ which was signed to Turn It Up Muzik, was a key release for us this year, as it was a track that was played by Robin Schulz all over the world this year, including World Club Dome and Tomorrowland. Lastly, our track ‘System’ which was signed to BODYWRMR, was a big release for us as it was debuted by Jeffrey Sutorius and Ultra Miami and Ultra Croatia.

Exron Music: Reflecting on the past year, which track, either by your own production or by another artist, do you feel has had the biggest impact on your career, and why?

Castor & Pollux: One track that had the biggest impact on us this year in particular, was our single ‘Manipulate’ that was signed to Turn It Up Muzik. We got a lot of great support throughout the entire year from Robin Schulz. He played it at World Club Dome and at Tomorrowland Weekend 2, so that was a big moment for us.

Exron Music: Were there any unexpected or surprising moments related to the tracks on your list, whether they are your own or by other artists? Any unexpected fan reactions or collaborations that stood out?

Castor & Pollux: I think the most surprising moments for us this year, was getting support at major festivals because it showed how far we’ve come with our original productions. An unexpected fan reaction from this year was from our track ‘Shot In The Dark’ as a lot of people resonated with the vocals.

Exron Music: Can you take us behind the scenes and describe the creative process or inspiration behind one of your personal releases that made it to your top list?

Castor & Pollux: ‘Walk Away’ with Ozgun was a fun track that we did together this year. We met at ADE in 2022 and knew that we were both going in the same direction musically. Once we had an idea, we went back and forth on ideas, melodies, sound design and where we wanted the track to go. It was a very seamless process and having it signed to Revealed Recordings was a big moment.

Exron Music: Can you share a track by another artist that you discovered this year and felt a deep connection to? What drew you to that particular piece of music?

Castor & Pollux: We would say ‘Human’ from Hardwell was a track that we really resonated with, this last year. The drop is everything that we embody with our tracks with pure energy.

Exron Music: Are there any particular musical influences or experiences from the year that you believe are reflected in your selection of top tracks, whether they are your own or by other artists?

Castor & Pollux: The Big Room Techno movement has really influenced us, as we come from the Big Room scene. The high-energy festival music is moving in that direction so we’ve steered that way by putting our own little spin on it.

Exron Music: Can you share any memorable anecdotes or stories related to the creation or performance of one of your personal releases or a track by another artist on your top list?

Castor & Pollux: Performing ‘Shot In The Dark’ this year across all of our big shows, was always memorable for all of the Progressive House fans that we have. It was an absolute killer every time we played it.

Exron Music: Looking back on the year, do you notice any common themes or motifs that run through your top tracks, or were they intentionally diverse in style and sound?

Castor & Pollux: They were all diverse in style as we like that. Obviously, if you have a specific style, not many artists can replicate it but having a diverse number of tracks in different genres is something we always pride ourselves on.

Exron Music: How do you feel your music has evolved or changed over the past year, and do your top tracks, whether they are your own or by other artists, represent this evolution in any way?

Castor & Pollux: As we said previously, the Big Room Techno genre is here to stay, so we’ve steered in that direction but also having Progressive House tracks that fans can latch onto is so important to us, as well as having so many styles that we can perform.

Exron Music: What message or emotions do you hope your audience takes away from your selection of top tracks, whether they are your own or by other artists, as they wrap up this year and move into the next?

Castor & Pollux: We hope people can feel freedom when they listen to our music as well as escapism. Sometimes we get caught up in so many different things in our lives, so when they listen to our music, we just want our fans to be inspired to do something that they love and go for it.

We thank Castor & Pollux for their time and wish them the best in their new projects and releases as they get ready for a new musical adventure in 2024, keep an eye out for this talented duo as they promise more music, live shows and impressive projects on the way.
