Fatboy Slim Performs Surprise Set at Historic Brighton Pub to Save Establishment from Closure

Fatboy Slim made an unexpected appearance at The Prince Albert pub in Brighton as part of a campaign to prevent its closure. The historic pub, which dates back to 1848 and has served as a local watering hole since 1860, is currently under threat from property developers. Their plans involve demolishing the adjacent garage and replacing it with a four-story commercial building, posing a significant threat to the pub’s future.

In response to this situation, the pub put out a petition that states: “We have numerous compelling reasons to oppose this development, which extend beyond our own interests to encompass the broader local community. These concerns include planning-related issues, social considerations, and, of course, the looming risk of The Albert’s permanent closure.”

Furthermore, on October 30, the popular local DJ, Fatboy Slim, performed an unannounced set at the pub as part of the ongoing campaign to protect the establishment. He expressed his motivation, saying, “I organized this performance because I firmly believe that this pub is worth preserving. It is currently facing a serious threat from property developers with intentions to construct substantial structures nearby, a move that could slowly erode its existence.” He shared these sentiments with DJ Mag.

Built in 1848 as a townhouse, The Albert transformed into a pub in 1860, becoming a part of local history. George Taylor, the current owner of the pub, has been a lifelong resident of the establishment. His father, Chris, was previously responsible for both The Albert and the renowned Concorde venue. The Concorde famously hosted the Big Beat Boutique events in the 1990s, where Fatboy Slim initially rose to prominence. George shares the concern that the proposed commercial development presents a substantial risk to the pub’s continued existence.

My name is Sebastian Medina and I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California. Ever since I could remember, I have always been in love with dance music. I appreciate all genres and sub-genres but I definitely gravitate towards house and techno. Being from LA I was blessed with an amazing nightlife full of different artists coming in and out of town throughout the years. Some of my favorite artists include Seth Troxler, Michael Bibi, Mr.Carmack, PAWSA, and Folamour.
