NERO to Return From 5-Year Hiatus with Third Studio Album ‘Into The Unknown’

Nero has released a new single titled “Truth” and teases an upcoming release for a third studio album called ‘into the unknown’.

The famed London trio Nero has released a new single titled “Truth” after a five-year hiatus and has set the stage for an upcoming third studio album called ‘Into the Unknown’ available in 2024. While the electronic group has cemented its name and supremacy over the past two decades, the announcement of a new album has once again revealed their unrelenting potency as electronic dance music pioneers, infusing their distinct artistry in the electronic music scene.

Since their 2015 Outdoor Stage Coachella performance, Nero has cooled their presence, lending time to their personal projects and lives. In 2018, they made a brief reemergence with a single only to recede once more from the mainstream. The passage of time has galvanized fans into a collective anticipation, waiting for Nero’s intricate fusion of propulsive beats and cinematic underpinnings. 

“Truth”, written four years prior, lies at the center of Nero’s explorative project. Diverging from their post-apocalyptic style, the trio has shown a glimpse of their exploration into a deeper, perhaps darker, cosmos of humanity. The new single has underlined the depth of their artistry, as ‘Truth’ goes from beautiful to brutal – ethereal to ecstatic. 

From beginning to end, Nero has evoked a visceral form of listening, especially as they incorporate a sample of Amanda Palmer reading Neil Gaiman’s The Mushroom Hunters, a poem that encompasses elements of motherhood, scientific reverence, and a temporality of humanity’s penchant for creativity and destruction, all which mirrors Nero’s reflexive philosophy.

The UK jungle and drum & bass of the 90s and early 00s style, inherent to the London trio’s beginnings, has acted as an inspirational foundation while also having paved a gilded path for the band’s forward-moving journey to complete a two-decade wait for a trilogy of albums.

Nero describes ‘Into the Unknown’ as a bridge between the two previous albums and will be the keystone in what seems like a twenty-year-long project. What comes after the wait for the new album comes the wait for Nero’s vibrant, scintillating and thoughtful live shows.
