Berlin’s Tegel Airport Canteen Transformed into a 700-person Music Venue

People will take flight once again through Berlin’s Tegel Airport as it’s transformed into a music venue.

Turbulence TXL is taking over the space that was once Berlin’s Tegel Airport and turning it into a music haven for performers and attendees of the club scene. On September 30th, Turbulence held its first event LIFTOFF at the Alte Frachtkantine, which is one of the former canteens.

On the official website, Turbulence was created by Raulito, Jakob, Anna, Paula, Laura, and Johannes. These six individuals who come from different musical and artistic backgrounds have come together to combine their ideas and networks to create a new cultural hub and community at Tegel Airport.

The event was described as a little festival as it held live music, DJ sets, workshops, art, performances, and a big rave in the evening. There was also a bazaar, table tennis for people to play, food, drinks, and lots of space for people to mingle. With a space limit of 700 guests, this first event that was held provided free entry to attendees.

The lineup at this party included Mareena, Philipp Johan Thimm, Lisbird, Saraab, and a b2b set from Zebra Katz and S Ruston. In just a week, according to Turbulence Berlin’s official Instagram, a group of people were able to build, decorate, and set up an open-air location for the attendees of LIFTOFF.

Turbulence’s website highlights many of the aspects the club will hold itself to as well as information about how to travel and get to the site in Berlin. Turbulence TXL will be “continuously on creating accessibility and inclusion and are accompanied in this process by experts in the field.” In attending the shows, the main goal the club wants is for “all guests to feel comfortable at our events”.

With the first event done, there hasn’t been any news about when the next show will happen or what the theme of it will be. But with a successful first event, Exron Music is excited to see what the future of Turbulence TXL has in store. If you want to check out one of the artists who performed this past weekend, listen to some of Zebra Katz’s music attached below.
