Bastille and Hans Zimmer to Release 10th Anniversary Edition of Internationally-Acclaimed Single “POMPEII MMXXIII”

After collaborating on other projects, Dan Smith of Bastille and Hans Zimmer are planning to release their version of “Pompeii” for the song’s 10th anniversary. 

Bastille released their debut album, ‘Bad Blood,’ and its single, “Pompeii,” in 2013 and found popularity with their music. Since debuting, they have drawn in over 11 billion streams on their first record. To celebrate their anniversary, Bastille released ‘Bad Blood X’ with three unreleased demos, live tracks, and two covers.

Now, Hans Zimmer’s take on “Pompeii” adds to the celebration with his orchestral take on the single. Zimmer is an acclaimed film score composer and has won Academy Awards, Golden Globes, Grammys, and more in his career. His intricate soundscape is captured beautifully in “Pompeii, MMXXIII,” spotlighting his emotional instrumentals filled with atmospheric strings and drums.

Grammy-winning band Bastille has crafted their alternative sound and earned much respect from other artists, including the composer. Bastille and Zimmer’s classical music blend beautifully in the clip shared on Instagram. The video was made in conjunction with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Cardiff. It shows the process of the group working together and playing live as a chorus and Smith sings. 

Hans Zimmer said, “It’s been proven time and time again that a beautiful, crafted song by a great band can have many lives and Pompeii is a shining example of this. Working hand in hand with Bastille and my team at Bleeding Fingers has been an exhilarating experience and an honour to be part of this remarkable journey.”

Dan Smith of Bastille offered the same respect to Hans Zimmer and his team, saying, “Working with them on this new version of “Pompeii” has been incredible and has put the biggest smiles on our faces throughout the whole wonderfully surreal experience.” The 10th-anniversary rendition takes the song to another level with smooth vocals and the harmonization of various instruments.
