Ever since they performed at SVDDEN DEATH’s Red Rocks show last month, rumors have continued surfacing about YVM3’S true identity. The mysterious DJ left concertgoers both perplexed and intrigued, as they performed somewhere beyond their range of sight. SVDDEN DEATH seems to be keen on endorsing the project both online and during his sets, giving us much to ponder.

The project saw its beginnings just over a year ago with (im sorry…), with SVDDEN DEATH quickly flocking to comment. Shortly after, yvm3 released the track as an interlude on its EP album.  More recently, this April 14th, the artist released their newest track “a tragic beginning” via YouTube.

YVM3 seems to be dubstep-heavy vision, with one fan noting “you can tell he actually listens to deathcore… it’s really good.” The elusive artist creates metal, trench, dubstep and tearout. One fan eagerly took to TikTok to explain that Yakz, SVDDEN DEATH’s alias Voyd, and Marauda were behind the mystery.

However, SVDDEN DEATH recently denied this rumor – leaving ample room for speculation.  Nonetheless, a Twitter user recently came in hot with his own theory about who could be behind the genius. According to @BarronBarr1, YVM3 may be no other than Porter Robinson, and for a number of reasons.

First, he claims that the project’s visuals and theme bear too similar of a resemblance to Virtual Self.  Moreover, Porter has a passion for dubstep but may fear fans of his lighter music will reject the side project. Finally, YVM3 may be a “leet” reference to the anime character Yume Irido, a medium that Porter openly enjoys.

Whether it’s a new kid on the block or a talented producer trying to avoid the pressure of a rebrand, YVM3 certainly continues to have the music community on its toes. Either way, this mysterious persona will undoubtedly remain one of the most exciting new acts on the scene. To keep tabs on YVM3’s latest, click here.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now, I am finishing up law school and hope to merge my passions by working in the music industry. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list items to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and ADE in the Netherlands. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Kevin de Vries, Eli Brown, and John Summit.
