Shogun Retires From Trance with Final ‘New World’ LP

Shogun releases final trance LP, ‘New World’, which is out now via Serendipity Muzik.

International four-time DJ Mag Top 100 DJ and producer Shogun has released his final trance LP, ‘New World’, through Serendipity Muzik on February 24, 2023. Three years in the making, the long-awaited sophomore LP will be the final long-form trance project for the San Francisco native.

In the past few years, Shogun released most of the tracks on the LP as singles. With 12 songs in total, the release of ‘New World’ gave fans two new exclusive never-before-heard records: “New World” and “Concentration”.

The A-side of the LP has palpable raw tension that builds up into pulse-raising dance hits full of twinkling synth manipulation. There are two features, with the first being “Under My Skin ft. Jennifer Rene”, offering a taste of classic melodic trance. The second is titled “Time For Us ft. Natalie Gioia”, boasting a punchy bassline that is carried forward by a vocal cut from Natalia.

When the album transitions into the B-side, with “Cyberpunk”, it transforms into snappy percussive elements and a dystopian radio broadcast sample. The sonic productions build up, leading into blissful drops on different tracks. Shogun was able to conclude the LP with his trademark thunderous trance touch, including a future rave twist.

In addition to putting together his latest album, Shogun debuted two new aliases in the past year, NXNJAS and Neo Tokyo. He released music on different labels including Armada, Musical Freedom, Black Hole Recordings, and more.

‘New World’ is a way Shogun can end a strict trance era of music. He is preparing to expand his alias to include different styles of electronic music releases, focused on the tech-house realm. Each alias is aiming to showcase a diverse production capability while preserving some of the trance roots of the Shogun brand.
