Skincare Essentials Guide for Ravers

No gatekeeping: every raver’s go-to guide for skincare hacks.

With the rise of TikTok and social media influencers, has come the rise of beauty products, makeup, and skincare. For the EDM community, skincare is an absolute must to look and feel one’s best! See below for our guide of must-haves and essentials for all ravers.

Neutrogena makeup wipes – individual packets

These are an absolute lifesaver at the rave and/or festival. Since hot showers are never a guarantee during camping festivals (let alone showers themselves), it’s always best to keep a packet of these handy. For those on the go, zipping from club to club (‘nother club, ‘nother club), Neutrogena makes individual compact, packets that are lifesavers. No female should leave the house without one of these babies in her purse, period.

Tea tree oil

This is Mother Nature’s catchall skincare and haircare formula. Tea tree oil is a natural anti-fungal and antibacterial. Dousing a hot washcloth in tea tree oil then scrubbing one’s face, and doing this for a full week straight, is a surefire way to reduce the appearance of pimples and clear up blotchy skin. Fun fact (or TMI): tea tree oil also gets rid of warts! Best of all, this magical compound can be found on the shelves at Trader Joe’s for only $6. While corporate America attempts to jam hundreds of dollars worth of skincare down Gen Z’s throats, this simple product can, and will, do all the tricks better, if not best, for the bottom line cheapest.

Vaseline

This sounds weird, but it’s not! Vaseline is the strongest moisturizer known to girl world, can heal open wounds, and perennially serves as the best chapstick ever. For those with oily skin, perhaps steer clear, but for those with dry skin or those in cold weather, this is your holy grail.

Elta MD sunscreen

Want to look hot into your 30’s, 40’s, 50’s, shucks, even 60’s? There’s one cardinal rule: stay out of the sun and/or wear sunscreen. Rather than purchase sunscreens from Sephora or Ulta, stick with the dermatologist-recommended Elta MD. This brand can be purchased from Amazon, or even during an in-person visit to the dermatologist (usually, offices sell them onsite) and is by far one of the strongest options for skin protection.

At-home tanning mouse (the evolution of the spray tan)

Piggybacking off point 4, in 2024 tanning beds are completely out! And rather than going to the spray tan salon for an inconvenient and uncomfortable experience, new products from St. Tropez make it extremely easy to tan in the comfort of your own home. Plus these products seldom produce blotchiness, unlike sprays a couple of days past the initial glow.

Any body lotion

Again, consumerist America will advise otherwise, but literally, any body lotions will do. Preferably gravitate toward lotions with no scents or artificial colorings. The most bland and least exciting will probably do the trick. Cetaphil is always a good choice.

Tatcha moisturizer

Tatcha is not too expensive, however, it’s still more of an investment product. Originally crafted in Japan, it features a unique formula of “superfoods, amino acids, and AHAs called Hadasei-3.” Of all the big-ticket skincare products pushed by Sephora, this is the best by far. It hydrates and smoothes, yet never feels oily and never induces breakouts.

La Mer: the one-stop shop

Rather than trust products, trust a brand. Although La Mer will cost the consumer a tad more than just $6 per bottle (just a tad), it’s worth it. For those looking to invest in pricier products, turn away from the commercialized fads at Sephora and to none other than La Mer.

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
