Michael Bibi Released for “Short Break” As Cancer Treatment Goes Well

International superstar Michael Bibi continues his battle with cancer.

Earlier this year, UK DJ Michael Bibi shared a leftfield message about his declining health with the EDM community. At first, Bibi announced a mini hiatus from social media to focus on his health. Things grew more serious when he announced that he’d been diagnosed with tinnitus (i.e. a persistent ringing ostensibly in the ears, but more aptly localized within the brain), although doctors were still performing tests to better understand the nuances of his condition.

Not long after the tinnitus diagnosis, Bibi took to social media to redact the verdict in a short discursive video. “Long story short I had some tinnitus and did lots of tests… Then it turns out that I’ve got more of a neurological problem within my brain, in the center, in the brain stem. The doctors don’t know exactly what it is yet. But I’m in the hospital now, doing lots of tests…”

Not long after that cryptic and concerning announcement, the EDM community was devastated to learn of the final diagnosis. “Last week I was diagnosed with CNS Lymphoma, a very rare cancer that affects the brain and spine. Unfortunately, it’s moving fast and l have to stay in [the] hospital, starting treatment immediately.”

The global EDM community rallied behind Bibi, sharing innumerable well-wishes and prayers on social media. Certain members of the community contributed poignant, engaging, and thoughtful tributes – urban murals, DJ set moments of silence, shout-outs during performances, and so much unbridled, inexorable love.

The world continues to diligently tune in for updates, keeping Bibi close in heart and mind. Although much of Bibi’s now seldom social media posts feature hospital settings and medical treatment updates, he recently shared a sweet reprieve. “After 10 weeks in a hospital bed, I’ve been released for a short break as my treatment is continuing to go well. Thank you for all your love. It really has given me strength. I have good days & I have bad days… Today is a good day.”

We are overjoyed to hear that Michael’s treatment is progressing positively and that he is healing, for the terrace is not the same without him. We look forward to sunrise sets overlooking cityscapes, no cares in the world – simply the music, the movement, and our beloved international superstar Bibi.

Heralding from sunny South Florida, I am a proud Florida Woman. In my free time, I surf the swamp, wrangle gators, open fan mail, and tend to my pets. In the wild, I'm most often spotted at immersive art spaces, step tappin' in a shadowed corner of the club, hater blockerz on, totally incognito as your resident EDM spice girl. Although I generally tout my spicy side, if there's one thing I'd love to impress upon the world, it would be this: it's not a waste to give love to those who do not deserve it – it's a gift. The world would be a better place if we gave, in kindness and in mercy, to those who need it most with no expectation in return.
