Grimes Allows Fans to Use Her Voice in AI-Generated Songs

Grimes tells us “the future really is now” with a bold stance on AI.

Music artist Grimes recently took to Twitter, her baby daddy’s latest controversy and business whirlwind, to release a bold statement regarding AI and its purpose/place in music. “We’re making a program that should simulate my voice well, but we could also upload stems and samples for [people] to train their own.” Essentially, Grimes is one of the first mainstream artists to proliferate more Grimes content (or rather, AI-generated Grimes content).

Grimes went on to advise, “[I’m] talking with my team: if [you] register music with us we can collect and pay out royalties direct to anyone who uses A.I. Grimes vocals using smart contracts!? The future [really] is now! This is so cool. [I’m] working on a way to register and easily access vocals [through].” This stance is in opposition to the Universal Music Group, which recently petitioned to remove a successful, AI-generated Drake song from all social media platforms, citing copyright infringement/law.

Grimes further clarified her stance with, “Ok [I] hate this part but we may do copyright takedowns ONLY for [really really] toxic lyrics [that use the] Grimes voice. [In my opinion], you’d [really] have to push it for me to [want to] take [something] down… try not to exit the current Overton window of lyrical content [regarding] sex/violence… no baby murder songs, please.”

She continued, “[I really] don’t like to [have] rules but don’t [want to] be responsible for a Nazi anthem unless it’s somehow in jest, a la Producers, I guess. [I would] prefer avoiding political stuff but If it’s a small meme with your friends we probably won’t penalize that. Probably just if something is viral and anti-abortion or [something] like that…”

Although Grimes appears to be one of the first mainstream artists to proudly open the door to all things AI, both her and her uber-famous baby daddy have always touted the benefits and possibilities of AI. Grimes regularly takes to Tik Tok to discuss AI and so does baby daddy Elon. All things considered, her stance on AI should take no one by surprise.
