Portugal. The Man Taps Chrome Sparks for Inspired Remix of Hit Single “Dummy”

Chrome Sparks is remixing Portugal. The Man’s song, “Dummy,” adding his playful flair to the alternative track.

Portugal. The Man is recruiting Chrome Sparks to remix their hit, “Dummy,” as it climbs its way up the charts and gets massive radio play. An ode to The Cure, “Dummy” dives into cynicism and impending doom with contrasting melodies provided by Chrome Sparks.

The Brooklyn-based artist’s touch speeds up the original piano in the beginning before adding choppy synths and a groovy mix. Over the last decade, he has mixed tracks and released his own songs, staying true to his playful sound.

Chrome Sparks take the original to another level with dancefloor-worthy beats and layered synths. When reflecting on his inspiration, Chrome Sparks said, “For this remix, I went back to the kind of sound that inspired me to make remixes in the first place – being in high school and hearing certain types of electronic music for the first time that also felt like rock ‘n’ roll.”

The song does just that – the producer has crafted a track that feels nostalgic, mixing well with Portugal. The Man’s alternative style. Chrome Sparks’ version takes the same vibes from the original and adds in electric pianos and dreamy basslines, making “Dummy”’s call to get on the dancefloor loud and clear.

Portugal. The Man’s eleven-track album, ‘Chris Black Changed My Life,’ is dropping on June 23 and another single, “Champ,” is out now. The band is playing Bonnaroo in June before traveling up to Canada and around the United States in July and August.

Chrome Sparks has no shows approaching, but he has released two songs this year, “You Are Love” and “Blood.” The single is now available to listen to on all streaming platforms. Watch the visualizer for “Dummy – Chrome Sparks Remix” here:
