NGHTMRE Releases Black Mirror Reminiscent Music Video for Zeds Dead Collab “Shady Intentions”

NGHTMRE and Zeds Dead infuse the melodic bass track “Shady Intentions” with dystopian futuristic visuals in their music video debut.

Producer, DJ, and label owner Tyler Marenyi (a.k.a NGHTMRE) released his fifth cinematic music video for “Shady Intentions” on his audio-visual debut album DRMVRSE. Boasting a bass-filled collaboration with veteran powerhouse Zeds Dead, the video’s release marks the latest addition to Marenyi’s immersive fictional plotline coursing throughout his new album.

Ultimately, “Shady Intentions” conveys a higher consciousness of the double-edged effects that technology can have on human interaction.

The video begins with a phony ad by Treadsoft for DRMWARE, a radical VR technology that allows users the “freedom to create a new life.” Specifically, the commercial uses testimonials from DRMWARE employees to paint a hopeful picture of the technology to watchers. However, the otherworldly journey takes a sinister turn as the system reads: “Treadsoft lies. Do Not Trust Treadsoft.”

Thereafter, the main character Julien takes us on a nerve-racking journey as he attempts to escape the company’s headquarters. Ultimately, the dystopian storyline reaches a climax as the central character unearths the company’s abuse of technology. The video is a perfect example of Tyler’s artistic genius, using complex visual storytelling to enrich the audience’s musical experience.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now, I am finishing up law school and hope to merge my passions by working in the music industry. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list items to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and ADE in the Netherlands. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Kevin de Vries, Eli Brown, and John Summit.
