I_O UNLEASHES HEAVY 4-TRACK TECHNO EP ‘AM 444’ WITH LIGHTS – [LISTEN]

i_o is back with the highly-anticipated third and final part of his EP series, ‘AM 444’. Directly following ‘ACID 444’ and ‘NRG 444’, the four-track endeavor impeccably highlights i_o’s versatile production skills in the studio, and features the vocal talent of Canadian alternative-pop singer/songwriter Lights. Taking his musical vision in a more mellowed direction, the latest offering from the budding, dynamic musician speaks volumes to his keen ability to craft stellar dance tracks without one specific genre in mind.

Hints of techno, melodic progressive house, and trance are all scattered throughout. These newfound dance elements courtesy of i_o serve as the perfect backdrop to Lights’ full-bodied, powerful, and flowing singing voice.

‘Annihilation’, released as a single prior to the EP’s initial release, is the perfect opening to the turbulent, dark world i_o sets out for the listener in the remainder of the three tracks. Make sure to check out the official lyric video for this one below! The same subdued techno vibe is carried through with ‘Run’. Making a concerted effort to showcase Lights’ impressive singing abilities, i_o strips down much of the production for the first half of the tune, and instead places focus on her profound lyrics, complemented by the light playing of a piano.

‘Drift Away’ harkens back sonically to early Deadmau5 tracks, with a vibe strongly similar to that of his 2008 collaboration with Kaskade, ‘I Remember’. Trance elements can be heard behind the strong vocal, with its main techno rhythm still left largely intact. Lastly, ‘Epilogue’ ends the EP rife with emotion and stands on its own as one of i_o’s most touching tracks to-date.
