Seattle DJ Subset is Reported Missing

UPDATE: dj subset has been found alive

A Seattle-based DJ has been reported missing after he failed to appear for a scheduled performance at Q Nightclub on November 22.

The Seattle Police Department is currently investigating the whereabouts of a DJ who goes by Subset, whose real name is Mark Martinez. According to a missing person poster that’s been circulating around social media, Martinez has been missing since November 22nd, the day before Thanksgiving.

His sister, Diane, who goes by @DJHoneyPaws has taken it to Twitter and Facebook to lead the social media search campaign. She first posted about Martinez’s disappearance on November 26th and has since followed up confirming that any reports by other parties of her brother being located have been false. At the time this article was published, Martinez had not been found, according to his sister.

Diane has also noted that Martinez has two upcoming shows scheduled, the first one being December 2nd in Denver. Apparently, Martinez has been “known to go off the grid” but there are details that have led his sister and law enforcement to believe “that is not currently the case.”

His sister urges anyone with information to please come forward and contact her at (210) 833-2461 or call the Seattle Police Department. However, after receiving an overwhelming amount of inconclusive reports, she has requested that only those with “NEW information or have seen his car or evidence of him” contact the police who are being “bombarded by calls”. Martinez may be driving a black Toyota Rav 4 with plates that read THNKFL4.

Mark Martinez, who performs as Subset, first broke into the dance music scene in New York City, where he was part of a weekly event called BASSment Saturdays at Webster Hall. He has also played at several renowned festivals including Camp Bisco, Holy Ship!, and Burning Man. His style is described as funky and versatile; he’s someone who has no trouble commanding a crowd and getting people dancing.

During the pandemic, Mark kickstarted a livestream event series called The New 9-5, which featured himself and other DJs for eight-hour virtual events. His contributions to the music industry are being felt heavily right now by his fans.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
