Seven Lions’ Wife Emma Discusses Coming Out of a “Dark Place” in New Gem & Tauri Single

Gem and Tauri’s new release “Waking Up” represents feeling yourself coming out of a dark place and shifting into lightness.

Gem & Tauri is an artist duo consisting of Seven Lions’ wife and girlfriend. His wife, Emma “Babbi” Montalvo, opened up about how she has come out of a dark place recently and it is reflected in her new track “Waking Up” with Gem & Tauri released on Friday, April 7.

Emma took to Instagram to announce the release of “Waking Up” and accompanied it with a lengthy paragraph that went into detail about what the song means to her and what she and the songwriters were trying to get across. She said during the lyric-writing process she could feel herself coming out of a dark place she has been stuck in for a long time. The song highlights that with darkness, eventually comes lightness, just like winter turning to spring. Emma added she now looks at herself differently following her realization.

She explained “Waking Up” and wrote: “I was beginning to look at myself differently. I could feel myself coming out of a dark place I’d been stuck in for some time and I wanted that to come through in those words. “Feel the quiet defiance it’s shifting us” meaning… that winter thaws and spring pushes through and feeling that shift is refreshing and hopeful.”

Emma expressed how when writing the song, she could feel the difference in herself and how she felt about the world around her. Proving she has made success coming out of a dark place she once felt come through every aspect of her life – even music. People in the comments were in awe over the song as one person said they could really “resonate with the lyrics” and another said it would be their new “spring anthem.”

The artist has turned a new leaf and she hopes that her fans can connect with what she is portraying in “Waking Up.” Emma continued the post that she is on tour for her husband, Seven Lions’ tour, Journey 3, with Gem & Tauri. She can’t wait to link with people and share thoughts over the music at their next stops. The tour started on April 1 and goes until June 16 – they will go to 42 cities in total.

Emma and Jeff Montalvo (Seven Lions) are currently in a polyamorous relationship with their girlfriend, Courtney Simmons, who recently shared a heart-touching post for Seven Lion’s birthday. They have been a couple altogether since 2019. Seven Lions and Emma have been in a longtime relationship.
