Walshy Fire of Major Lazer Debuts First Solo Album

Walshy Fire, the MC of Major Lazer/producer/international DJ alike, gathers his friends from Africa and the Caribbean for the launch of his first debut solo album “ABENG” out now via Mad Decent. The title of the album, “ABENG”, refers to a horn instrument brought from Ghana to Jamaica used for communication by runaway slaves. This project bridges the two regions together in one beautifully intricate set of 11 tracks.

Featured are some of the biggest names in Afrobeats and Afropop including artists like: Mr. Eazi, Ice Prince, Demarco, Masicka, Adekunle Gold and more. In tracks like “No Negative Vibes” and “Bend Down Pause” Walshy pairs artists from different regions to create a hybrid of music. “The intention is to make the Caribbean and Africa have a conversation that is louder, and in the same studio or the same stage, at the same time,” explains Walshy.

Intricate and upbeat, it is obvious that “ABENG” was created with heart and passion. A beautiful start to Walshy’s solo career, we can only hope for more thoughtful music to come. If you haven’t heard, listen to the full album below!
