Charlotte de Witte Reveals New Archival Label Époque to Capture the Spirit of 90s Rave Culture

Techno empress Charlotte de Witte launches her new archival label ÉPOQUE to celebrate the scintillating rave culture of the ‘90s.

Belgium’s techno sensation Charlotte de Witte embarks on a voyage into the past with the launch of her archival label ÉPOQUE, housed within her KNTXT imprint. The label’s name most aptly captures the essence of an iconic era in Belgium’s underground club scene. Primarily, its mission is to reinvigorate the essence of ‘90s and ‘00s discotheque culture for dance music’s next generation.

Importantly, Charlotte de Witte has kicked off this new label imprint by releasing her rework of the 1998 Belgian techno classic “Universal Nation” by Push.  De Witte’s edit retains the original track’s dreamy trance intergalactic undertones and high-energy build-up. Unsurprisingly, however, she managed to catapult the energy into “overdrive” with her iconic futuristic vocal overlays and driving basslines.

The track emerged as a B-side for a different project but quickly snowballed into a defining piece of electronic history. De Witte’s high-energy rendition of this classic serves as a flawless ode to one of her favorites from the era. Furthermore, her “Universal Nation” rework undoubtedly signals the importance of celebrating dance music’s history as it progresses forward.

Going beyond traditional remixes, the ÉPOQUE label will resurrect and revive timeless dance classics, utilizing the power of nostalgia to flip legendary tracks into the mainstream.  ÉPOQUE will also elevate the global club scene through its high-quality merch, which has already proven immensely successful for de Witte’s label KNTXT.

De Witte’s label KNTXT has become a pivotal platform for showcasing new-age techno from talent such as Onyvaa and Adiel. Since its inception in 2019, KNTXT has certainly earned its stripes as a respected name in the electronic music industry. Its commitment to impeccable production quality and genuine passion for expanding the genre will unquestionably peak through this new imprint.

This latest project will not only honor the industry’s past but also contribute to the ongoing evolution of the techno landscape. This archival label promises an educational journey through time that gracefully propels the rave scene’s history into the future. “Universal Nation (Charlotte de Witte Edit)” is available on all platforms on January 25. More information on ÉPOQUE is available via its Instagram page.

Having grown up just an earshot from Ultra Miami's venue Bayfront Park, it was next to impossible for me not to fall in love with electronic music. My love for music was evidently strong enough for me to write my college essay on festival culture and continue attending Ultra for 10+ years now. I have always had a knack for writing and the power of words, which I continued cultivating through a Philosophy degree in college. Now, I am finishing up law school and hope to merge my passions by working in the music industry. I am an avid traveler and am certainly not afraid to hop on a plane for a music event. My next bucket list items to attend are Tomorrowland in Belgium and ADE in the Netherlands. Though the list could go on forever, some of my favorite artists include Franky Wah, Kevin de Vries, Eli Brown, and John Summit.
