Fans Suspect Lorin Ashton is Not Behind Bassnectar Resurgence and Claim Return is a “Scam”

Despite what appears to be the return of Bassnectar, some fans speculate it’s not actually Lorin Ashton behind “The Other Side.”

With the introduction of a new member-only website: unlocktheotherside.com, a new Mixcloud mixtape, a leaked album announcement, an email from the Bassnectar team, and more, it’s apparent that the artist is making his return. However, some are still skeptical about the whole charade, and think it may be a “scam.” So, what could the scam be? For starters, the new project, “The Other Side” is being hidden behind a paywall with a membership fee costing up to $150.

In a recent Reddit post, one fan said “A couple things on my mind to start some discussion… one, to all the ppl that still believe this is not lorin pulling the strings and could still be a scam. I ask, do you really think some random group would be able to pull all of this off without getting serious cease and desist letters?”

The user continued, “At this point it’s obvious [that it’s not a scam] after the relive, half the album, official account drops the music for optimists on mix cloud, the dudes voice in the convos, all of the branding.” Supposedly, there’s been some doubt about the legitimacy of the website due to bugs and other minor discrepancies.

Some are also skeptical because Lorin Ashton a.k.a. Bassnectar has returned to the EDM scene but not made a statement despite the pending civil suit. As of now, he is still awaiting trial. On that notes, the same Reddit user continued, “But, as many have said, that for sure is not coming until after the trial. And even then we might not hear – NDA’s on both sides I’m sure.

Fans may not really know the truth until Lorin Ashton himself speaks out publicly. Historically, a massive team has helped run the Bassnectar project. Although the group may certainly be smaller now, it’s not unusual that Lorin would still be behind the project while others faced the public and media.

Bassnectar moved forward with the first “Relive” stream last weekend, further supporting the theory that this his return is not a “scam.” Relive is a new weekly series in which the artist will stream old shows for fans and members of “The Other Side.”

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!
