Wax Motif

Exron Music: Tell us about how you got started with the Wax Motif project and how it has evolved since then.

Wax Motif: I got started because honestly I graduated college and I didn’t want to get a job straight away.  I took a job in a bar and then I started DJing on Monday night and then it slowly turned into every night of the week, it kind of spread from there. I started with DJing first and then moved into the producing side.

Exron Music: You just dropped a huge collaboration with Diddy, ‘Divided Souls’ and simultaneously launched your label. Can you tell us the whole story behind this new chapter in Wax Motif?

Wax Motif: The track Divided Souls I’ve been working on for some time and once we had it ready and cleared by Diddy it seemed like the perfect opportunity to launch a label which had been on my mind for a while. The words in his lyrics Divided Souls really stuck out to me so we ran with it.

Exron Music: Did you decide to name the label ‘Divided Souls’ first or the track? Can we expect a 20 minute version of the song?

Wax Motif: I decided to name the track first and yeah the name just stuck with me. Hahaha yeah I’ve had a lot of pressure to release a 20 minute version so I made one when I was in New York and it will be coming soon!

Exron Music: How have the places you’ve lived in the world contributed to shaping your sound?

Wax Motif: I guess living in LA gave me a lot of rap (especially west coast) influences. I was already into that sound in Australia so I think moving just exacerbated it.

Exron Music: Your House Of Wax mixes have become super popular since their inception. What do you think these mixes bring to the table that separates them from others of their kind?

Wax Motif: I think our new house sounds is generally lacking in radio presence so I really wanted to establish an outlet where my friends, peers and I had an avenue to get our tracks heard across the country. The show is now on Diplo’s Revolution, Insomniac Radio and syndicated in Japan, Australia and a few other countries so I think the platform is building nicely. I also think just having regular content keeps fans happy between releases.

Exron Music: What was your favorite part of this most recent festival season?

Wax Motif: Honestly it’s not having to compromise on my set anymore. This past year has been great at establishing my sound and I feel like I’m playing exactly what I want to play now and working a lot of my own music in and it seems to be working so it’s felt great

Exron Music: What are your goals for the rest of 2019? Any upcoming plans we can look forward to?

Wax Motif: Just to keep building myself and the label. Building the radio platform too and working on new merch ideas I want to execute.  And yeah you can look forward to all the releases cause there’s some slaps coming.
