Fans Slam The Chainsmokers for Canceling Tacoma Dome Show Due to ‘Sickness’ but Playing Countdown One Day Later

The Chainsmokers have faced backlash following canceling their performance at Tacoma Dome and then performing the next day in Los Angeles.

Over the years, the Chainsmokers have secured their position as popular artists who top the charts with a huge fanbase. But, going into 2024, they may have a few apologies to make to their fans. The popular duo is making headlines once again, but this time it is not for something good. So, what exactly happened? Fans are questioning the Chainsmokers after canceling their Tacoma Dome performance, citing illness, only to perform at two shows the following night.

New Year’s weekend is a marathon for many performers, with many having multiple shows in different locations throughout the weekend. For the duo, they were set to do just this with shows in Colorado, Seattle, California, and Las Vegas. But, on December 30th, fans were shocked to see an announcement on the DJs’ Twitter. The statement stated “ Seattle, we are so sorry we won’t be able to attend tonight’s show at Together as One Festival. Drew has a really bad fever and bronchitis which he is being treated for but cannot fly. If you know us this is maybe the second show we have missed in 11 years but we are terribly sorry. We will make it up to you all asap.”

So, the duo took to Twitter to inform their fans about the cancellation, citing health issues that made it impossible for them to perform. Initially, their fans were sympathetic towards their situation. However, they did not get to catch them at the event they understood. However, just 24 hours later, The Chainsmokers performed at Countdown, a major music festival in San Bernardino, CA. Then, followed up a huge festival and headed to Las Vegas to perform again at XS Nightclub

This sudden change of events left many questioning how serious their illness was and the authenticity of their initial announcement. Certainly, this sparked criticism on social media platforms, with fans expressing disappointment and frustration. On the Instagram post by the Chainsmokers which showed them quite well performing at these events, Tacoma Dome fans expressed their anger. One fan states “You’re really saying, “f*** off WA” with this, nice goin. Lost a fan here. “I’d never cancel unless I was so bad”….lol.”

Certainly, this cancellation from the popular duo has caused outrage among fans. Many fans speak out about the disloyalty this shows of the duo. But also, it makes fans feel unseen or cared about. So, what will be next for these artists? Over a week has passed without any apology which is a shame. But, fans will continue to express their disappointment with some even mentioning no longer supporting them. One thing is certain though. The Chainsmokers will need to navigate this controversy somehow to regain the trust of their loyal fan base.

I have been writing for Exron Music for around eight months now and cannot wait to see what is to come throughout the years. At festivals and clubs, you will find me at any house and techno stage supporting my favorites Eli Brown or Dom Dolla, or belting every word to Porter Robinson tracks wherever he performs.
