Fred again.. Teases New Album ‘Secret Life’ with Mentor Brian Eno

Fred again.. and his mentor and seasoned music producer Brian Eno have sparked discussion on a forthcoming joint album titled ‘Secret Life.’

British breakout DJ sensation Fred again.. shared a series of Instagram stories alluding to a new body of work called ‘Secret Life’. He tagged his mentor, Brian Eno in the post and linked to secretlife.fm. At this time, the website contains nothing more than a play button that leads to some static-y sounds, and a blurry image of four shadowy figures against a cityscape.

It’s not shocking that Fred would announce a new album in such a subtle and mysterious way. If there’s one thing he knows how to do (besides producing stellar music), it’s hype up a crowd! Four Tet also shared a post with more insight into Fred’s news.

Four Tet posted to Instagram with no caption, but the photos said enough. The first photo in the set included a sticky note with the words, “Fred again,” “Brian Eno,” “Secret Life,” and “TEXTOSS” with the date “5th May 2023.” Based on the post, we can assume that the album will be released on Four Tet’s label, Text Records.

The second photo is the same image visible on secretlife.fm–the shadowy figures against a cityscape. Perhaps we’ve gotten a glimpse into the album cover?

In an Apple Music interview from last year, Brian Eno spoke about his artistic relationship with Fred again.. He said, “When I first worked with Fred I could see he was brilliant,” Eno said. “It took me quite a while to think ‘Oh my gosh, this is really a new idea about how you can make music. So I learnt a lot from him.”

Although Brian is considered a mentor of Fred again..’s, the teacher still learns from the student! It’s exciting to watch symbiotic relationships grow in the music industry. When two artists of this talent caliber get together, there are no limits to what they will create, and ‘Secret Life’ will be a culmination of that. Fred again.. Has already built many impactful relationships in the industry, including that between himself, Skrillex, and Four Tet. The three recently made the performance of a lifetime on Coachella’s main stage a couple of weeks ago.

I've been a part of the dance music scene for nearly a decade and with Exron for more than half of that time. My first event was Diplo's Mad Decent but these days you'll find me at Club Space or the Brooklyn Mirage. Some of my top artists are G Jones, Tipper, Of The Trees, and CharlestheFirst. My favorite genres are techno, experimental bass, and ambient but I'll get down to anything with a beat!

What's your reaction?
