Steve Aoki has made a name for himself through cakes.

Steve Aoki’s cake throws have been a unique addition to his sets since 2011. Aoki, wanting to find new ways to engage with fans, had landed on the slightly bizarre and slightly electric routine of launching cake into the crowd. Many fans have recounted the absolute glory of being nailed in the face during his set.

Since Aoki has embedded this into his set, fans have wondered how his cake-throwing abilities became so accurate. In the bottom video, it is seen that Steve Aoki has virtually mastered his technique, visualizing some of his fans not as supporters but as targets. The slow-motion effect has helped to illustrate the unexpected talent.

Watching Dim Mak’s music video of “Autoerotique,” where cakes combust in the faces of people, Aoki saw the birth of his famed idea. In the array of clips, Aoki has learned how to stretch his body and use his strength to bring his cake-throwing to new heights. Now fans have begun bringing signs to increase the chances of a mid-set snack. 

In the video just below, however, Aoki has decided to bring his cake throwing to new heights, as he drops a cake from a helicopter. From Aoki’s perspective, the cake seems to take an easy descent. From the fan’s perspective, the cake hurdles down with intense velocity. 

No matter the venue or environment, Aoki has created a fanbase that craves cake for different reasons. He had started to accrue a staunch following in the early 2010s. Having released “Turbulence” and “No Beef,” Aoki sealed his followership.

Aoki has now performed all over the world at various vibrant shows. He has graced the crowds at US festivals like Coachella, Lollapalooza, and Electric Forest. With his experience over the past decade in music and cake throwing, he has set high expectations for more sweet tracks in the future.
