Sonic Bloom Announces Festival Hiatus in 2024 After 17 Years

Colorado electronic music and arts festival Sonic Bloom has announced that there will be no 2024 edition.

In an Instagram post, beloved electronic music and arts festival Sonic Bloom has informed fans that they will be “on hiatus in 2024.” The post did not specify a reason for the hiatus, but some fans in the comments guessed that it may be to let Hummingbird Ranch, the site of the festival since 2015, recover and rejuvenate. Similarly, while the post did not clarify whether there are plans for future editions of the festival past 2024, some fans in the comments speculated – and hoped – that there may be a return in 2025.

Sonic Bloom has been a staple for much of the dance music community in Colorado and beyond since it began in 2006. The 2023 edition was headlined by Clozee and featured other big names such as Dirtwire, A Hundred Drums, INZO, Rome In Silver, and TVBOO. Previous years brought in the likes of Tipper, Of The Trees, Wreckno, Gramatik, Keys n Krates, Claude Vonstroke, and Gigantic Cheese Biscuits (Big Gigantic, The String Cheese Incident, and The Disco Biscuits).

While the news of the hiatus is of course sad and disappointing for fans of the festival, Sonic Bloom focused on the positives in their announcement post. “Here on the winter solstice we reflect back on the 15 festivals we have experienced around the summer solstice together over the past 17 years with a profound sense of gratitude for the entire SONIC BLOOM community and for all your participation & support since 2006… THANK YOU!” Many comments expressed similar sentiments of appreciation and fond memories in spite of the unfortunate news.

The festival closed out their post once again looking on the bright side, telling fans that they can access discounted tickets to their “festival friends” Texas Eclipse and Rise & Vibes via the link in their Instagram bio. Texas Eclipse features a stacked lineup of artists from electronic music and other genres during the 2024 total solar eclipse, while Rise & Vibes highlights roots and reggae music in Durango, Colorado.

Since then, I've attended countless shows and several major festivals including Tomorrowland, EDC Las Vegas, Decadence CO, Hard Summer, and Shambhala.
