James Hype Shares Story Behind DJ Career Ahead of Drumsheds Debut

World-renowned DJ James Hype has posted a video announcing an upcoming Drumsheds show with Meduza and reminiscing on the start of his career in London.

In a new Instagram post, English DJ James Hype has shared with fans a little bit about his humble beginnings in London. James says that in 2016, back when he was known as James Marsland, he moved to London with “no money,” “a sh*t car,” and “a dream to be the best DJ in the world.” He goes on to sing London’s praises, calling it “the land of opportunity” and “the most influential [city] in rave culture.”

James then makes a massive announcement: an upcoming show at the brand new Drumsheds venue in London with Italian house trio Meduza. The show, set to take place on April 27th 2024, will be part of their ‘Our House’ brand which brings together the two acts’ distinct styles for an experience that excites house fans of all kinds. ‘Our House’ has recently played shows in New York, Amsterdam, and Chicago and will be playing a New Years show in Washington, DC as well.

James notes in the video that he’s “done two sold-out shows in this city before, but never anything like this.” He’s not joking, either; his most recent headline show in London in 2022 was at the 1,500-capacity Electric Brixton, compared to the massive 15,000-capacity Drumsheds. Playing such a huge show in the very city where his career took off seven years ago is sure to be a surreal full-circle moment for the superstar DJ.

Since opening its doors in September 2023, Drumsheds has played host to the likes of Gorgon City and Camelphat and has booked upcoming shows featuring Chase & Status, Charlotte De Witte, Amelie Lens, and many more. A converted former IKEA warehouse, the enormous and unique venue has been the source of much excitement in the London dance community and promises to bring in huge names like these for years to come.

James Hype will undoubtedly be going all out for this mammoth show with Meduza in the city that means so much to him. Tickets are on sale now. Check out his newest single below, fittingly titled “Drums,” to get a taste for what he’ll bring to the table at Drumsheds in April!
