A Look Back at 2023’s Hottest Jazz House Artists

Jazz House has cultivated it’s own lane as one of the hottest sub-genres in 2023.

An emphatic blend of drum beats, trickling in brass and wind instruments, and topped off with a head-swaying bassline; this is a fusion of its own kind. Jazz House has never failed to be a sumptuous antidote to any environment needing music. Ranging from mid to high tempo, this music subset has allowed plenty of room to color in the gaps with sweetly ringing jazz-like instruments.

The sub-genre has served the music community well, especially in 2023. Artists of this genre have understood an intricate merging of two distinct styles, evincing a colorful nature of this music. As always, music has compelled us to look back as much as forward. A few artists and groups have veritably highlighted themselves in 2023.

HNNY

HNNY

Well known for his work since the early 2010s, HNNY has stylistically imbued his sonic catalog with a wide range of tempos and instrumentals. His deft curation of music can be inspected from many standpoints, but his tracks that tilt more towards the jazz-house genre have positively ruptured the music scene simply due to his conviction to make mellifluous sounds. In 2023, HNNY has included the ‘Vanja & Lena’ EP to his collection. Edging slightly away from Jazz House, the jazzy flare still prominently persists behind the sweet vocals.

Okvsho

Okvsho

Another well-defined duo, Okvsho has showered fans with their groovy jazz beats. They have illuminated the scene for some time, especially with their 2018 EP ‘Traphouse Jazz’. Since then, The Swiss group has embellished their roster of music exceptionally well over the past half-decade. This past year, “Soulé” has dropped and the cool vibe fills any room it’s played in.

Tom Doolie

Tom Doolie

Tom Doolie has etched his own personal vibe with his repertoire of music. While his musical and artsy career extends back nearly a decade, he has continued to reveal a cool level of artistry, always ensuring to set atmospheric and modern music with a tinge of jazz. His latest release “Poolday” has spoken for itself, as it conveys a chilled, laid-back vibe. Something always available to fill a room.

Bellaire

Bellaire

Bellaire, an artist who has shown his ability to rile a crowd, has released another jazzy-banger. Perfect for a night out, Bellaire’s new song “Celebrate” with Bomel and Georges has yet again hyped up the music scene. The song itself has signified similarities with the classic track ‘Paris City Jazz’ but in its own right has broken grounds once more.

Berlioz

Berlioz

Berlioz has stood out on his own in 2023, building a mix of instrumental brass and percussions and slyly segueing into rhythmic baselines. Music of this sort has mesmerizingly saturated a timelessness into his aura. Many fans have fallen into the Berlioz trance.

He has transmuted the jazz house glimmer into a surreal reality. He has mirrored the tagline and descriptor of the artist; ‘If Matisse made house music.’ His EP ‘jazz is for ordinary people’ has strongly set him up for the new year in 2024.

Like many others, I often dive into a variety of music genres and explore, as best I can, what resonates while I listen. For me, EDM is a dense subset of music with unique artistry and textured sounds - a facet of melody and tune that I will always investigate.
