What So Not and Daktyl Explore Different Sound in New Single “Fever”

What So Not and Daktyl have teamed up to release their new single “Fever.”

What So Not and Daktyl have released the fun, high-energy track “Fever” on the electronic music label Monstercat Instinct. Prompting fans to immerse themselves in a feeling of bliss, the artists have offered a unique sonic experience for music lovers. The song opens with the ethereal lyrics, “I can feel the fever running through my blood.” The vocal layering on the track makes the vocals sound as if they are coming from within the depths of your one’s thoughts. 

The song is reminiscent of some of What So Not’s major hits including “High You Are (Branches Remix)” that caught the attention of music listeners across genres. It brings the same infectious melodies and hook that contributed to the success of one of their first big hits. Having Daktyl on “Fever” adds an extra layer of experimentation in the sound that is new for the duo.

What So Not has been creating feel-good hits for over a decade including “Mercy” featuring MØ from their most recent album Anomaly. He has collaborated with different artists from a variety of genres including Oliver Tree, Skrillex, Killer Mike, and RL Grime. “Fever” is What So Not’s first collaboration with Daktyl.

Daktyl has grown into a multi-faceted artist and producer with years of experience mixing on stages before big names like ODESZA, Troyboi, and Bonobo to name a few. His latest EP ‘Chaos Theory, Part 2′ is a collaboration with Nigerian lyricist Benni Ola. The EP has a much more lowkey sound than “Fever,” but is just as inviting in its melodies and emotive lyrics.

The beat intensifies and cuts through the vocals to create a song that feels weightless. The thread of melodies continues throughout the song, bringing it back to the original feeling of freeness in the lyrics. The song combines the unique use of weaving freeform lyricism throughout the track and elements from pop and electronic dance music from both of the artists. 

The pair have performed a live single of the song at the Same Same But Different festival in Lake Perris, California where Griz also headlined. The pulsing bass line got the crowd moving when the song played. The two electronic music sound innovators were able to see people make their connections to the single.
