What to Know About the Las Vegas Sphere Opening

MSG Entertainment’s brand new Sphere in Las Vegas is finally open, and here’s all of the details.

After much anticipation by Vegas frequenters and live music enthusiasts, the Sphere at The Venetian Resort is finally open. The state-of-the-art venue officially opened its doors on September 29th with a U2 concert, kicking off the band’s residency at the new facility. 

The venue reportedly took four years to build and shockingly cost roughly $2.3 billion in construction. Since the recent announcement of the venue’s completion, it’s been all of the talk. Pushing boundaries of architecture and technology alike, the Las Vegas Sphere is surely on the path to change the way we experience live music as we know it.

The Sphere welcomed nearly 17,500 fans through its doors on Friday night. It’s tough to imagine how that many people can fit inside a literal sphere, but at 360 feet tall and 516 feet wide, it takes the world record for the largest spherical structure on the planet. It’s no surprise that the record-breaking Sphere is doing the impossible.

The exterior is adorned with more than half a million LED panels (580,000 to be exact!) which marks another first for planet Earth. Inside, 167,000 speakers create one of the most intense audio experiences you’d ever witness. 

Not only will the Las Vegas Sphere hold concerts and music shows, but the venue will put on exciting audiovisual experiences. A new film titled Postcard from Earth directed by Darren Aronofsky will demonstrate the breadth of the venue. The film is a documentary seated at the intersection of sci-fi and nature, promising to take viewers on the most extensive journey through planet Earth they’ve ever witnessed. 

The Sphere has already put dozens of fun images and videos on display for the world to see. Now, we can finally go inside to find out what else the architectural anomaly has to offer. 

U2’s residency, U2: Achtung Baby Live At Sphere, will run through December 16th. Fans can expect a completely immersive and futuristic show like nothing they’ve ever witnessed before. Tickets for U2 and Postcard from Earth can be purchased here.
